This group is for people who are just starting out with a new camera and has never done any serious photography to put on display for others to see. We can all watch each other get better as time goes on and we get more familiar with out cameras. A place where each other can ask for constructive critism and advice on how -to-do.

Does anybody have any idea how to do "burst shots" using a plain point & shoot camera?
Cruising said at 4:51 p.m. on Jul 8, 2007:
Which point and shoot?
Xtine said at 10:02 a.m. on Jul 9, 2007:
hi cruising! it's for canon powershot a430. ty!
Cruising said at 1:46 p.m. on Jul 9, 2007:
According to your camera specs, you have "continuous drive" of 2.3 frames per second or something like that. There should be a setting on the back dial to kick this in. If you have the manual, I'd check that.
Xtine said at 8:10 p.m. on Jul 9, 2007:
ok...i'll try to check how that feature works. thank you!

This group was established to help each other beginners in the field of photography, hopefully, we may lend a helping hand to achieve good photography skills. Feel free to ask for help, and I am sure we are all willing to give a helping hand when needed.

is there any reasonably well priced camera out there that anyone recommends for a beginner?
Cruising said at 9:30 a.m. on Jul 6, 2008:
Michelle, Can you give us an idea of what type of photography you are looking to do (casual vs really getting into it, flowers, street, portraits, mainly vacation, sports etc..) ... Also - what is reasonably priced. For some this is $200, others <$500 while even others would say less than $900 :) That could help us suggest some things.
MichelleMc said at 2:13 a.m. on Jul 7, 2008:
i love shooting flowers and portraits, etc....reasonably priced would be anywhere under 900.00............thanks! Also I love macro shooting...dont know if that information is needed...:-) Thanks

I think you have 2 ways to go. (I should have asked what you currently have too - let us know). A point and shoot can do macros and is convenient. You can keep it with you at all times and not lose an opportunity. I actually prefer Canon SD series P&S; - although the Nikon P1600 rumored to come out would be a GREAT camera. Most Point and Shoot have macro settings and portrait settings and will produce great results. Many folks here use them. You can go to the Macro group and ask some of the folks making Tabblos their favorite camera and why. You'll probably spend less than $500 on these type. The other approach is using an SLR. Nikon has many camera in all ranges. The entry level D40, D60 are a good price. Nikon D40x is under $500 for the body alone. The D60 is about $625 but comes with a lens. For both of these, you would buy a "macro" lens. There are many out there, at all price ranges. If you were to get the D60 kit for $625, you can find a low-end macro lens to start with for under $300. It's pushing your price range, but gives you many options in the future. Hope this helps and good luck.

I know I for one, need help in the field of photography and I thought, if we all got together, we could help each other in some way, almost like the blind leading the blind, LOL, but many heads are better than one.
Xtine said at 1:09 p.m. on Jul 8, 2007:
i certainly agree :D

Hi, I would like learn more myself. I am more of a scrapbook person and photography isn't as easy as wished.
Tishfish said at 5:52 a.m. on Jul 28, 2008:
It takes a little while to master photography, I know I haven't yet, but play with it and have some fun and learn from your mistakes like I have. Your photos are quite good now, this is the place to learn how from all the nice people on tabblo who are willing to help.
