A long, long time ago in a land not so far away, people were limited to pen and paper to communicate with those who lived far away from them.  Good old snail mail...how ever did they survive?

then came the typewriter.  it made letter writing faster, but still was not a fast form of communication.  you still had to send your letter through the mail.

finally, in 1876 alexander graham bell patented the electric telephone.  this invention revolutionized communication as we know it.  it was our first taste of "instant" communication.  with the telephone you can call someone up who lives thousands of miles away and talk to them.  Amazing!

Now I know there were lots of amazing technological advances from in between the telephone and computer (like the television), but I just want to focus on person to person communication.

So yeah, the computer.  email!  who needs to write a letter or make a phone call when you can write an email.  who needs to be personable anyways?

The cell phone.  now we are talking my language.  talk about technological advances.  with my cell phone i can call anyone from anywhere, take pictures, play games, listen to music, access the internet, and most importantly text message.

this is the real reason for this post.  text messaging.  it has completely changed the way we communicate with each other.  text messaging is fast, easy, and absolutely non personable.

it is meaningful to get a hand written letter, its nice to get a phone call, but does a text message mean anything?
