12 January 2008:

Today I purchased my first macro lens, the AF-S VR Micro-Nikon 105mm f/2.8G IF-ED. These are my first set of macro photos. I have a bouquet of flowers in the house, so I took it outside to photograph in the natural light.

I hope you like these.

Monica

Sunday January 13, 2008:  I just uploaded the following three photos giving a better depth of field.  Note the first set of photos I took photos on the P setting (of my D80) and didn't worry about the DOF; so the above photos do have a shallow DOF. Hopefully the three new ones have a better/greater DOF.

Monica, welcome to the world of the macro. I like the colours of the pictures. The lens you brought is in my view the best value for money in the nikon range. From the lens I assume you have a Nikon DSLR. The secrets for me of macro photography is, knowing your camera, trying and testing various options and then practice, practice and more practice. (Istill think I only know at the most 10% of what the camera can do and knowledge of taking good pictures) Good luck and I look forward to your future Tabblos.

Monica, these are really really good! My favorite is the rose one at the bottom left, and the blue/purple one with the background flowers a little out of focus. DOF is a great tool, it shows the viewer what you intended them to focus their gaze on.

The light is exquisite, and i appreciate your footnote on the aperture settings.

Deb, #8 is my favorite too. Doc, I actualy returned the lens and bought one that I know I would use all the time - a Nikon 35-70 with close up capability. I couldn't justify the cost of the macro lens. My bradford pear and Springtime in my yard tabblos shows the close up feature. Love the lens and I'm really getting to enjoy doing DOF.
