Sacred and 'Wonder'ful

This is the third and final installment in the three-part series covering my adventures in Peru. This final part tries to capture some images of the flora, fauna, archelogical sites and finally one of the newest Wonders of the World, Macchu Picchu.

The photographs were taken while on the classic trail of the Inca people to the Sacred site of Macchu Picchu.

Above: The start of the hike, the train up to MP (for the lazy folks :), some flower pictures and an Arch. site.

Below: Photographs during the hike

Above: Scenes from the hike; some more archeology...

'La Veronica' snow-capped peak, the ubiquitous porters (wearing slippers :) along the way, llamas 'like father like daughter', the numerous tents at the camp-sites, a surprise rainbow on day 2 and the highest point of the hike... 4215m (~14000 ft.)

Below: Some more hike pictures...

Above: Archeological sites, Llama family union, view through a tunnel, going up and down (painful :), a lone hiker atop a cliff and finally on Day 4, the anticipation in the queue at the final checkpoint to complete 2 more hrs. of hiking and enter Macchu Picchu. At this point, roughly 20-22 hrs of hiking have been completed.

Below: Sights from the site of Macchu Picchu.

In particular, the Temple of Condor (notice the shape of the head), the various rooms at the MP site, the Sun temple and the arch. of the walls.

Having arrived at the bottom, below are some images from the town of Aguas Calientes.

In particular, typical billboards, hostels and the hustle bustle with the arrival of rain.

This is great, love the pictures of the city. I wonder and marvel at how these places were build. What did we do to ourselves to loose a culture, skill and knowledge to create such a place. we can only dream.... Thank you for sharing and I am green with envy that i cannot do the hike.

I am astounded at what the Incas were able to build with little more than blood, sweat and tears.... That view of the valley #3 is nothing short of spectacular...and the terraces...WOW! Thanks for the tour.
