yangon and beyond

yangon. was the former capital of the union of myanmar, before moved to nyapyidaw, nearby pyanmana, about 400 km from mandalay.

as the capital city from the former british era, yangon was enchanting. tree-lined boulevards with so many old colonial buildings. and top of the city views is the gorgeous shwedagon paya.

but what we see nowadays is a tragic beauty. politics and military rules made the people live in poverty. they are smiling to us. but by looking into their eyes, we found a hidden sadness.

Very tragic for people to lose their familiar way of living. Hopefully the ruler will change.

thanks a lot for dropping by, shector and doreen.
- doreen, we do hope the same. you can see the beauty, but you feel their pain also. strange feeling when we go travel in myanmar!

Love your pictures and narrative. It almost looks like the smartly dressed man in the last picture has a bouquet of flowers in his hand.

Great pictures especially the first and the last, Yangon is a tragic tale of a country going to the dogs so to speak where dictatorship and corruption is the norm of the day

- yes andre, coincident urban-style snap shots!
- jude, the smartly dressed man with a bouquet of flowers ... we'll going wrong if thinking he'll go somewhere for a date. he's not! he present those flowers to the temple. you believe that?!
- yes anja, first picture was taken from our balcony. glittering in the night and looks wonderful.
- debbie and teo ... hoping the freedom will come soon for them ...
