1. This brief tutorial demonstrates how you can create a new entry in your Movable Type weblog.

Begin at our course hub, www.electracuse.com. 

In the right-hand menu, you'll find a collection of links under the heading "WRT302 Weblogs."

Select MT Login.

2. At the login screen, enter your username and password.  These have been distributed to you in class.

Once you login, you can reset your password to anything else you prefer.

After you have entered your username and password, select "Log In."

3. Once you have successfully logged in to Movable Type, you will see a listing of the weblogs to which you have permission to post.  Feel free to explore this space to get a feel for the possibilities. 

When you want to create a new entry, simply select "Create a new entry on this weblog."

4. At the "Create New Entry" screen, you will find four spaces for entering text.

Every entry you create should include a "Title" and an "Entry Body." 

So that your weblog will be organized for future reference (to you and to others who read it), you should also add a category to your entry.  You can establish new categories, too, and assign as many categories to an enty as you want to.

5. After you have entered a title, entry body and category, scroll to the bottom of the "Create New Entry" screen.  You will find several settings. 

Post status: Set to "Publish" when you want your entry to show up on the weblog.  If this is set to "Unpublished," your entry will not appear.  "Unpublished" is a setting most useful for entries you want to begin but that aren't yet ready to publish.

None of the other settings here should affect your entry for now.  We will learn more about thse features later in the semester.

When you have finished adjusting the settings, select "Save."

6.  After you save your entry, you will see a confirmation message at the top of the entry screen.  If you want to make changes to your entry, feel free to do so.  Be sure to save your changes.

Notice, too, that you have the option to "Preview" your work.  Select "Preview" to see the layout of your entry before you publish it to the front page of the weblog.

Once you have finished your entry, set it to "Publish," and saved it, visit the front page of the weblog to confirm that your entry appears there.  That's all there is to it.  You have created a weblog entry using Movable Type.
