old louang phabang

old louang phabang.  a small old city that already entitled as UNESCO world heritage site for its historical preservation zone. here can be found temple monasteries and french-influenced colonial buildings.

being here just like back into the past era. some of european atmosphere --as the colonial buildings are standing still-- and laotian ancient grandeur --refer to the lane xang periods with the temples are anywhere in the city.

sisavangvong road or xiangthong road. is the main artery in this old city.  there lies old shophouses and cafes. once turn to the several alleys, can be found beautiful french mansion and temples.

should not be missed is the talat laeng or evening market and hmong market. along sisavangvong road to direction royal palace museum is closed for motobikes and cars. so everybody can enjoy shopping here.

- oh, annelies ... once you're there in one of the hotels, you'll find those nice interiors. art deco and colonial style are anywhere. then the temples ... also anywhere! and red sunset was a 'bonus' as the effect of slash and burn period from the farmers. smokey sky make it perfect :)

- yes andre, visit laos at the slash and burn moment --actually the same season as in northern part of thailand or chiangmai and myanmar-- can have colours like these as a result!

yes, that's great question! we did the same when we're in luang prabang, "what is that, only women can across the roads?" for the traffic signage. and the answer is --believe it or not-- "let the women cross the roads first [since maybe she's in a hurry]" huh? :) yes for us also funny and so rarely found!

yes, they're pretty fantastic old temples, noe. one of them, wat xiang thong [which have beautiful roof] also enlisted as one of the most beautiful architecture in south east asia!
