On Saturday, September 9, I set the alarm for 5:30 a.m. with plans to go to a local lake and shoot sunrise landscapes. I knew we were going to have mornng fog, although .... low lying pockets of fog can help the mood.... but the fog was heavier and thicker than expected. |
As you can see from the photo of a rock in the lake below, there was no contrast and any chance of a sunrise was shot. But, photographers work with what is available. And I had plenty of spider webs in the grasses and weeds around the lake and the dew made them quite nice to shoot, so I started with this.
My first spider web below will probably become my Halloween week screensaver. :) |

As the sun came up a little, I was able to focus ... and I begin to see a few of the critters that made the webs. In the low light, exposures were long, |

but my subjects were patient. Even the slightest breeze ruins these shots, so I have lots of bad shots also. Thank goodness we live in a digital world. |

While shooting one particular web, a grasshopper moved down below. I was able to get a few shots of this little insect before he became impatient. |

As you can see, my grasshopper friend had to defy gravity a bit while posing. |

Once the insect left, I was back to shooting the arachnid family. |

The spider above became my screensaver today. ... at least for the next week. :)
By the time my last macro was taken, I had missed sunrise, but I still had a little time to shoot a few landscapes of the eastern Pennsylvania countryside. I clicked a few exposures and then headed home for a well deserved breakfast. It was only 10:30 a.m. when I made it home. The coffee tasted very good after mucking around in the dark and the dew with spiders! |
