Bulgarian Wedding Music

Bulgarian “wedding music,” a dynamic music which swept across southeastern Europe in the 1970's and ‘80s, is characterized by virtuoso technique, inspired improvisation, energizing tempos, and unexpected key changes.  While based on Balkan folk music, it incorporates elements of jazz (particularly bebop),  rock 'n roll, Roma (gypsy), Turkish, Arabic, and Indian music.  Saxophonist Yuri Yunakov, shown here with members of his ensemble performing at the San Antonio International Accordion Festival, is considered a master of the genre.

Excellent images. Beautiful tones. You've captured the exuberance of the musicians. The sense of their playing while laughing seems to me to be in contrast the accustomed "pain" of blues musicians. There's a feeling of effortless joy.

You have captured the joy which music brings to the listener and the musician. Well done.
