Garden Birds

We live in Gippsland, in the south east corner of Australia.

Our locality ensures we are visited by many of Australia's most colourful birds. A bowl of water in the garden or a handful of seed on to the grass and we will be entertained for hours.

A pair of Musk Lorikeets are having a drink. The brilliant red and green King Parrots are regular winter visitors from the nearby hills. The female Satin Bowerbirds are tackling an abandoned dog bone.

Rainbow Lorikeets are the comedians, even when taking a bath. The masters of disguise are the Tawny Frogmouths.

The Common Bronzewing has some stunning colours displaying in the sunshine. A small bowl of mealworms or termites will always attract some of the resident Superb Fairy Wrens.

The raspy growling of the Gang Gang Cockatoo is often the first evidence of them feeding in the tree tops. Grey Butcherbirds just love being around when some firewood is being split.

This is beautiful! How lucky you are to have such beautiful backyard birds in Australia. I live in North Carolina USA and our backyard birds are quite common and not nearly this gorgeous. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you Jennifer. Yes, we are indeed fortunate to be in this locality. This Tabblo doesn't cover two other favourite species, the Eastern and Crimson Rosellas - watch this space.

You have a wonderful knowledge of all the birds that visit you -- I didn't know Australia had such colorful birdlife. Do you do birdwatching in other places also?
