For a "Material Guy" you had a divine inspiration clicking the monasteries!!! Great Pictures!
Liliana said at 10:04 p.m. on Sep 17, 2006:
¿Y si pasás los comentarios anteriores sobre estas fotos...?
Exceentes, siempre, con más o menos sol, temás más o menos "divinos"...

more great pictures from another great location! :)
Eduardo.affonso said at 10:11 p.m. on Sep 17, 2006:
Thanks, MÁRIO & JASON. Wish I had a digital cam when I visited Moldavia, so I could have taken hundreds of pics, not just a few ones as I did. This is an amazing part of Romania, and these paitings are like "comics", telling biblical stories. A place not to miss, for sure.

LILIANA: Teria que buscar no Phlog, e dá uma preguiça danada. De mais a mais, lá o tipo de comentário era bem diferente, não acha?

Very nice paintings for sure...and being Catholic, I recognize some of it ;-P. What wonderful detailed work, huh? How old is it?
Eduardo.affonso said at 10:31 p.m. on Sep 17, 2006:
KELLY: These painting are absoluttely insane: they cover all the surfaces of the churches, inside and outside. They were made during the XV and XVI centuries, and need to be restored. There are not many tourists around there, so it's a double pleasure to admire them into a deep silence.

Beautiful, and I love the rugs hanging off the balcony in the last photo.
Chingyo said at 2:43 a.m. on Sep 18, 2006:
beautiful...I love the architecture of this part of Europe.
TavarES said at 5:28 a.m. on Sep 18, 2006:
O mundo está cheio de coisas belas.
Eduardo.affonso said at 6:56 a.m. on Sep 18, 2006:
NANCY: Probably it was the cleaning day and the "monasterymaid" had lots of work to do...
Eduardo.affonso said at 6:57 a.m. on Sep 18, 2006:
Me too, CHINGYO. I'm also fascinated by Middle Age architecture, and these monasteries are unique.
Eduardo.affonso said at 6:58 a.m. on Sep 18, 2006:
AFONSO: Basta ter olhos para vê-las (e uma câmera fotográfica, para poder compartilhar essas visões com os amigos).

Wonderful pics! I'm sure it was a treat to see them in person. Thanks for sharing them with us!
Micadz said at 9:11 a.m. on Sep 18, 2006:
Very nice architecture. Another place I need to visit.
Mjpileggi said at 10:02 a.m. on Sep 18, 2006:
Great pictures! Thanks for sharing. As Micadz said, "another place I need to visit."
Janer said at 11:41 a.m. on Sep 18, 2006:
WOW!!! These are absolutely breathtaking, love the details on the paintings. How come you never shared these before in phlog? :)
Eduardo.affonso said at 6:01 p.m. on Sep 18, 2006:
JILL: These buildings are fascinating. That blue can't be found anywhere else (it's called Veronet Blue). It's fading in the North façade but still bright and shining in the South one, because of the sun and the wind.
Eduardo.affonso said at 6:05 p.m. on Sep 18, 2006:
MICHELE & MONICA: I had been planing to vist Moldavia since I was 17 and saw a documentary about these monasteries. They were even more interesting "in person", with that quiet and ancient atmosphere. It's still Middle Age inside these temples, believe me. And they do deserve a visit.
Eduardo.affonso said at 6:06 p.m. on Sep 18, 2006:
JANE: I thought I had already posted these on Phlog, but I'm not sure. Well, that's one more reason for you to take a look at my tabblos once in a while... There must be some old novelties!
Liliana said at 8:32 p.m. on Sep 18, 2006:
Acho... ;)
Eduardo.affonso said at 9:21 p.m. on Sep 18, 2006:
LILIANA: Mas também acho que estamos mudando o modo de usar o tabblo, ele está ficando meio phlóguico. Veja nos outros tabblos, todos meio monossilábicos. Daqui a pouco vamos estar conversando, tergiversando, divagando e gastando o latim como nos velhos tempos.
Paul said at 12:00 p.m. on Jan 18, 2007:
Truly beautiful pics. You captured the essence of the monasteries very well, Eduardo. Thanks for adding this tabblo to Romania group.
KZan said at 12:48 p.m. on Jan 18, 2007:
Indeed great pictures. The blue from the first picture is unique. No one could recreate it. The theory say that the painter used a plant that no longer live. It is called "Voronet Blue". (Probably these days computers can recreate it, but still.... :) )
Eduard said at 12:58 p.m. on Jan 18, 2007:
Very nice tabloo, Monasteries from Romania must be seen live. They are full of history and they reflect perfectly Romanian Spirit
Eduardo.affonso said at 1:08 p.m. on Jan 18, 2007:
Multumesc, PAUL, KZAN & EDUARD! I'm a great fond of Romania, which I visited many years ago and will miss forever. In fact, the main reason of my visit was the Monasteries, which I admire a lot. Veronet blue is awesome (I even wrote a poem about it, asking myself how many blues could exist). I still plan to scan some more pics taken in Bucuresti, Suceava, Poiana & Brasóv to make new tabblos. Buna seara!
Paul said at 4:46 a.m. on Jan 19, 2007:
Eduardo, multumim pentru cuvintele frumoase. :)

Thank you for the kind words. I'm glad you enjoyed your time in our country and I hope you'll return sometime.

There are monasteries all over Romania, even though the most famous ones are in Moldavia. For instance there are some picturesque ones in Maramures. Please check out my tabblo about Maramures in Romania group. There are a few pictures from Barsana, a quite new monastery, built in 1994. You may find more info about Barsana here. The website is unfortunately only in Romanian, but there are a few pictures to form a more detailed idea.

We're looking forward to see your tabblos with pictures you have taken in Romania.

Obrigado. :)
