a moment apart

Vicenza, Italy

the streets are empty and still

silence echoes in the alleys

she appears from nowhere

for a moment I meet her eyes

the next she is gone

I never saw her again

I was struggling to find a title for this picture, fairly satisfied.. but curious to hear alternative titles from you! =)

Wow, looks so timeless.

Lovely photo.
Looks like she is not going to get married.

What a great photo this is!! I agree with the title.

Wow, love this photo! Nice title

This is a personal fav to me, and I guess the b/w gives a timeless feeling. It's converted, the original is a colour slide. I like it in colour as well, but gives somewhat another feeling.. more modern/fashion.
Tintti, I agree with you - that was the feeling I got as well... is she really to be married today? What happened? But I can't give an answer, as I don't know. It's a mystery...
Leftofcenter said at 9:06 a.m. on Jan 25, 2008:
What a GREAT shot Anna, the bride lost in black and white in Italy!! The title is perfect, there will be many moments like this (if she made it to the altar) poor little pretty bride... :)
Andre. said at 9:20 a.m. on Jan 25, 2008:
Nice b/w creation.
Domieb2 said at 9:33 a.m. on Jan 25, 2008:
Great shot! ...and I wouldn't change the title. As Leftie says: She looks so lost... I feel like I need to hand her a map. I walked through Venice. It ain't easy to get places...

Great shot...but she looks so sad. :-(

Runaway bride is the current hot theme but a more metaphoric one might simple be lost love. This image is a classic. There's a Cartier-Bresson quality to it - and not in the sense of his later top hat and tails in a machine shop.
Jantass said at 10:55 a.m. on Jan 25, 2008:
Beautiful photography
PhotoPop said at 11:19 a.m. on Jan 25, 2008:
She looks confused like we all are on a momentous day like this. Is she making the right decision? Should I stay or should I go. I do like the b/w.

A title ? "To run away towards the true love!" Bellissima b/w

Anna, this photo is gorgeous! and I like the title, is perfect like the shot. =)

Grandiose cette mariée sur la route pavée!!!Il y a un décalage interessant entre la silhouette gracile de la jeune-femme et ce site urbain en noir et blanc.Bravissimo! joelle

det är som taget från ett melodrama. Underbara kuliser och tankeväckande gestalt. Svart vit ger den rätta, dramatiska känslan. Underbart Anna!
Tishfish said at 1:15 p.m. on Jan 25, 2008:
I look at this and what comes to mind is "escape", Great picture!!!
Pattymaryclare said at 1:28 p.m. on Jan 25, 2008:
Likely a 'pre-arranged' marriage ...therefore the 'runaway bride' as stated above! Poor thing!
Candlepower said at 3:26 p.m. on Jan 25, 2008:
This is really great. A bit of sadness here.

A VERY LONELY PLACE FOR A BRIDE TO BE. I WORRY THAT HER GROOM DIDN'T SHOW.

the runaway bride!
Marcif said at 1:07 p.m. on Jan 27, 2008:
This is a very compelling photograph. It draws the viewer in. Great job! I can't think of a better title. With the streets deserted it makes it even more mysterious than just seeing the bride alone.

what a wonderful title..cant be better..you are a great photographer...great job
Abking said at 8:54 p.m. on Jan 27, 2008:
This is a wonderful photo. Everything in it is just right. Even the circle with a slash through it over the woman's head add to the atmosphere of a fleeting moment beautifully externalized.
Yug said at 7:01 a.m. on Jan 28, 2008:
Nice. If you can do nice in B/W it is much more artistic than "good" in color.
SteveBrisendine said at 9:11 a.m. on Jan 28, 2008:
Anna ... this is a haunting piece. Fantastic work.
Welshchick said at 2:15 p.m. on Jan 28, 2008:
This is beautiful and intriguing but alas...she lacks that look of magic in her eyes. She will not be married in this dress on this day... suggested title: SEEKING

Une grande image, merci et bravo Anna, salut mon amie.

Bravo Anna!! You certainly captured a "moment in time" perfectly!! Love the picture, perfect title too!! Thanks, Anna! :)
Mirella said at 5:04 p.m. on Jan 28, 2008:
Two days ago I saw at the television an italian film im which there was a scene located in a narrow street very similar to to the street in your photo. It was a dream of the actor; he dreamed of his marriage and there was a bride running alone in that street>.It was just a second, but inn that moment I thought about your photo.........Could it be a film location ?
Decoy said at 5:12 p.m. on Jan 28, 2008:
I don't think so, because we went up and down the streets, looking around - but we didn't see any signs of a filmcrew. It was very warm and during siestahours, so I guess that explains the empty streets. I looked at a map of Vicenza yesterday and there is a church a couple of blocks away, so it's not that strange with a bride in the area. But alone? But your theory was good though! =) It's a mystery for sure!! This picture is a couple of years, but I think of it now and then. It's hard to forget it... as Steve say: "-this is a haunting piece" :)
Decoy said at 5:15 p.m. on Jan 28, 2008:
Thank you all for your kind words, and suggestions. When I tried to find a title I didn't want it to reveal my thoughts about the photo. I want it to be unsaid if she is running to something or from something, or both. I love that part of the photo, not knowing.. as it gives a lot of possible stories! It has been fun reading all the storys you see! Thanks again for sharing your thoughts...
Joaqy said at 10:09 a.m. on Jan 29, 2008:
I LOVE IT! so much mystery. I could make my own story in my head. :)
