Inge Clayton was born in Salzburg and came to England in the 1960s to work as an interior architect and jewellery designer. From 1976 to 1984 she studied collage with Jack Yates, life drawing with John Nicholl at the Camden Arts Centre, and printmaking at St, Albans under Peter Jacques.

 

One woman shows of Inge's works include: the Margaret Fisher Gallery, 1979; the Royal Free and the Atelier Gallery, 1984; the Boundary Gallery, 1985; the Andrew Usiskin Gallery, 1989 And 1992; St. Judes Gallery, 1990; the Stable Gallery, 1990 and 1991; and the Catto Gallery in 1995.

 

Notable group exhibitions include: the Royal Academy of Arts Summer Exhibition in 1955; the Royal Society of Arts; Camden Arts Centre; Elder & Blythe; Sloane Street Gallery; Kunsthaus Schaller, Stuttgart; Galerie Engelberts, Geneva; Galerie Hessler, Munich; Galeri Groessel Salzburg; Galerie Mozart, Salzburg; The Small World Gallery, Santa Monica, and the International Art Exhibition, Kensington, the Royal College of Art.

 

In 1989 Inge was awarded the National Collage Society prize and her work is also featured in Jack and Hanna Yates' book on collage, published in Germany by Otto Maier Verlag. Inge's painterly nudes are extensively commissioned and widely collected.
