SUN YAT -SEN MEMORIAL HALL . TAIPEI , TAIWAN .

Some people really have a lot of gall. In the photo above you can see a sign that is located next to a statue of Sun Yat-Sen which is itself  to be found in the appropriately named Sun Yat -Sen Memorial Hall.  I have seen many obnoxious signs before , but this one  takes the cake !Now..... I do have a certain amount of respect for the  great Chinese leader .However, do they really expect me to salute his statue ?     PS   I did not salute the statue and rest assured..... the rather serious looking guards (these guys are real people.....not statues....) did not go after me with their bayonets for not saluting.........The whole time I was there no one saluted the statue.  There is hope for humanity yet !

What game they are playing is it Shogi, GO or Chinese chess?. The size of the board is wrong for GO but the pieces shape is wrong for Shogi so I say it is chinese chess. Great life type picture thank you for sharing. What worry me is the game is only be played by old men.....

Sorry Brian.....I have no idea what kind of game these guys were playing. I think there might have been some betting on whatever they were playing....

Charles, I am 90% certain the game is a cheap and portable version of Chinses chess. it is very similar to one i have in my games collection. "Go" has very specfic black and white pieces and the position are not a GO layout, Shogi has different shape pieces therefore in my view it can only be Chinese chess. As you (I assume Know) the asians bet on anything...... Question How do yo manage to travel to all these places you take photos of ?

It does look like gomoku. Western variations I think, are pente and othello. ... I do love the black and whites of the men playing the game. ... saw them in colour in another tabblo of yours, but the b&w's suggest the timelessness of the pass time and add to your image. ... Very nice work. Taipei was certainly an inspiration for you! :)
