Photographers' death match (Salgado Vs Doisneau). Vote and make your comments!

Sebastião Salgado (born 1944 in Aimorés, Minas Gerais, Brazil) is an illustrious Brazilian photographer and photojournalist. After a somewhat itinerant childhood, Salgado initially trained as an economist, earning a master’s degree in economics from Sao Paulo University in Brazil. He began work as an economist for the International Coffee Organization, often traveling to Africa on missions for the World Bank, when he first started seriously taking photographs. He chose to abandon a career as an economist and switched to photography in 1973, working initially on news assignments before veering more towards documentary-type work. Salgado initially worked with the Paris based agency Gamma, but in 1979 he joined the international cooperative of photographers Magnum Photos. He left Magnum in 1994 and formed his own agency Amazonas Images in Paris to represent his work. He is particularly noted for his documentary photography of workers in less developed nations. Longtime gallery director Hal Gould considers Salgado to be the most important photographer of the early 21st century, and gave him his first show in the United States.

Robert Doisneau (April 14, 1912 - April 1, 1994) was a French photographer noted for his frank and often humorous depictions of Parisian street life.

Among his most recognizable work is Le baiser de l'hôtel de ville ("Kiss by the Hotel de Ville"), a photo of a couple kissing in the busy streets of Paris, which has come to represent the French manner of living, accurately or not, to many parts of the world. The original print of this iconic image was sold for 155,000 Euros by Françoise Bornet, the woman in the photograph, at an auction in April 2005. Bornet and her then boyfriend Jacques Carteaud posed for the seemingly spontaneous photo in 1950.

Doisneau's work gives unusual prominence and dignity to children's street culture; returning again and again to the theme of children at play in the city, unfettered by parents. His work treats their play with seriousness and respect.

Wow, an interesting idea. I guess I'd have to vote for Salgado myself. Very creative use of a tabblo. I noticed I had to log in order to view it. Is this always the case?

They are both accurate and that's what photography is about.

Both artists have a remarkable work, I think that I vote for Robert Doisneau.

Hm..tough to choose. It's a battle between the "civilized" world of Doisneau and the less-developed one of Salgado...to me Salgado's work has more heart & depth, and is much less "commercial" in feeling than Doisneau. One more for Salgado!

decisions...decisions..., Claudio this is a great idea for a tabblo. i think they are both great. but IMHO we are really comparing apples with oranges...technically the frenchman is superior, but the brazilian captures the soul...the very essence of his subjects on film. Doisneau is the brilliant executioner. Salgado is the passionate chronicler. one vote for each. and three cheers for Claudio.

Yes Esiagian... apples and oranges! But what do you prefer? "different interpretation of the same thing... the use of the camera. Personally I vote to Salgado, a "passionate chronicler" of our world. Ciao.

so do i prefer cool technique or raw passion? ........if i think with my brain i choose Doisneau, if i feel with my heart i choose Salgado...=)
