Get Old in Photoshop

I played a little in Photoshop yesterday, using a technique to get pictures look old.

It was easy, and done in a minute.

This is the way I did it, if you would like to try it for yourself.

Technique to use:

Go to Image > Adjustments > Hue/Saturation.

Check the box for Color, and put both Hue and Saturation to amount 30.

Press OK and you will get the old fashioned colour.

Go to Filter > Noise > Add noise

Set amount to 6, and check the box for Gaussian and Monochromatic.

Press OK and you will get a structure less sharp.

Go to Filter > Texture > Grain

Set Intensity to 4, and Contrast to 40. Set Grain Type to Vertical

Press OK and you will get more punch to it, and more diffuse structure.

If you want you can add some cracks:

Go to Filter > Texture > Craquelure

Spacing 60, Depth 2 and Brightness 7

The pictures I used are some rather old pics, taken by a sort of "mobilecam". In my next tabblo you can see these pictures, among others, in originals.

Thanks; I'll take note of the lesson. ... I find it interesting that the photos that have good definition to begin don't quite seem to look as 'old' as the ones that have a bit of blur, flatness, or high contrast. The three that work the best for me are: the last one (did you add the crackle to it?), the high contrasting one of the fish shed above it, and the one to the right of the shed. Very cool; Much better than using the sepia filter.

I only use photoshop for minimal work mostly, but once in a while it can be fun playing around! =)
I think this is a good technique, and I don't know how much better I could make them by let it take some time, to make more individual amounts. A great deal I think! But I just wanted a feeling of what could be done.

Dar, no I didn't add any crackle. In the last one the vertical grain is more obvious, for some reason I don't understand. There's such a difference to the others, but the same amount.

I'm not a Photoshopper but sure like this antique effect you've achieve. I've recently begun taking photos in RAW in b/w....gives you more latitude with tonal values and you can always reconvert to colour. Your atmosphere in this set is so nostalgiac. So serene.....
