Nice clear photos - what kind of camera & lens do you use. Thanks.

I use the "original" Canon Digital Rebel (6.2 megapixel) and a Canon 70-300 IS lens, shoot in Raw format convert and then crop and sharpen a little in Adobe Elements 4.0

Thanks for your response - I love how sharp your sports photos are - I am trying to accomplish the same thing with my girls' soccer games but am having trouble. I am using the Canon Digital Rebel XT and a 70-200 f/4 L lens but yours are so much sharper - I am wondering if it is because of the IS feature - is yours a L series lens as well? Or is it because you are shooting in RAW - I have never tried that either. Sorry to have so many questions.

CMAriene - Raw helps as the file size is much bigger, so more detail is embedded. IS helps also. To get the shutter speed up, I often shoot at ISO 200 or 400 in aperature priority mode. Since digital increases lens mpact by 1.6, a 200 acts more like a 300 mm lens, etc. so I try to have a shutter speed of ~1/500 or greater. ANOTHER MAJOR TRICK: When I process, I use the filter command filter>sharpen>unmask sharp. I set the amount between 100 and 180 to please my eye, then I set the radius between 0.5 and 1.8 depending on the shot. If the shot was in focus, this will then nicely sharpen it up. This is a powerful adjustment tool, so take care to not be too heavy handed with it until you develop a touch/skill for the adjustment.

BTW, my lens is not an "L" lens, so you are actually using better glass than me.

Thanks for all your suggestions. I have been experimenting with the unsharp mask tonight and definitely see an improvement but it is a little tricky. I am going to try the rest of your suggestions at the match this weekend. Thanks again.
