Hornets Soccer Fall 2006 - Game 1

October 7, 2006. Breckenridge Park. Blue Field.

Game 1 of the much-anticipated fall soccer season for the Hornets pittted your favorite yellow and black U6 boys against the long-time rival Panthers. The Panthers had the size advantage and looked to intimidate the Hornets early. However, the Hornets quickly took control of the ball and the game by their familiar rapid-fire scoring in the first quarter.

Finding some extra spunk, the Panthers stepped it up a level in the second quarter, holding the Hornets scoreless. The Hornets league-leading defense held tough, though and also prevented the Panthers from scoring.

After a rousing halftime speech, Coach Tracy sent the boys back out for more in the third quarter. Led by the quick feet of Trent R. and the ever-present Auyadh, the Hornets ended their scoring drought and put more distance between themselves and the Panthers. Veteran Grant C., who had been bothered by a deep cough all week, didn't let his allergies slow him down. When asked if he was OK after several coughs before one kickoff, Grant simply replied, "Hey, why didn't you pass it?"

The fourth quarter brought more scoring and even some passing, much to the delight of both the coach and his coughing son. The great defenders Brenden H. and Grant O. even took center stage and contributed to the scoring efforts by a strong goal and a couple of assists.

Following the game, when complimented on his team's victory and the way they handled themselves, Coach Tracy simply replied "Thank you."
