Flamborough Lighthouse

The light

The 'new' Flamborough lighthouse (actually built in 1806) stands guard as a silent sentinel, protecting shipping off Flamborough Head.  Less silently, the fog horn station, perched on the edge of the cliff, sounds the arrival of fog.

The lighthouse is 85 feet tall and stands atop a 170 feet high chalk cliff.  The lamp mechanism rotates constantly on a bed of mercury.

reflection on roof of car

Feb 6.  Bright but cold & windy on the Yorkshire coast.  A good day to go, out of season & quiet.  Gusts threatened to blow us off the edge of the cliff.  Nearly lost my favourite ball cap.  Must go again, soon.

Heavenly scene in the first one and quite like your lighthouse reflection. Bravo! We have a town named Flamborough not far from here.....but it is not nearly as picturesque......AND it's covered in snow.....:(
