"Reluctance" by Robert Frost

Out through the fields and the woods

And over the hills I have wended;

I have climbed the hills of view

And looked at the world, and descended;

I have come by the highway home,

And lo, it is ended.

The leaves are all dead on the ground,

Save those that the oak is keeping

To ravel them one by one

And let them go scraping and creeping

Out over the crusted snow,

When others are sleeping.

And the dead leaves lie huddled and still,

No longer blown hither and thither;

The last lone astor is gone;

The flowers of the witch hazel wither;

The heart is still aching to seek,

But the feet question"Whither?"

Ah, when to the heart of man

Was it ever less than a treason

To go with the drift of things,

To yield with a grace to reason,

And bow and accept the end

Of a love or a season?

Thanks, Melisa.

I got the last picture purely by chance. I noticed the reflection, snapped the picture, and didn't give it a second thought. It wasn't until I was putting the tabblo together that I realized how well it fit with the poem. I think it is the perfect visual exclamation point.

Stunning Dave, absolutely stunning. All the more so since I can look out my window and see the same basic thing albeit not framed with your great eye.

The picture in the middle of the grassy humps by the river, reminds me of a couple of verdant beavers, very cool dude.

Very Beautiful. I especially liked the atmospheric shot with the trees and the frost rimmed red leaf.

Thanks, Pete and Roy, but Mother Nature deserves all the credit. Getting good pictures this Fall has been easy -- like shooting fish in a barrel. Enjoy it while it lasts!

Just gorgeous! I love the combination of the photos with the poem. Those last two pictures are spectacular. Beauty is so abundant in the world around us and we often fail to see it. Thanks for capturing it for us.

RE: Robert Frost "Reluctance"

the line: But the feet question "Wither?" - Wither s/be spelled Whither
