Learning the lens

I recently was blessed with the opportunity to get a new (to me) lens for my camera. I've already posted some first glimpses and observations made on the first day. Here are some more pictures that I took as I got more familiar with the new piece of equipment in following days.

Day 2: Before starting the day's work, I set my camera up towards the bird feeder outside our kitchen window. The rest of the morning, whenever I got up to grab a snack, I would try to sneak some shots before the sparrows saw me and flew away.

Day 1 (addendum): I noticed that I also took some photos across our living room the first night. I couldn't really keep my hands off of the new rig that first day.

I also grabbed a shot of some roses at the very top of the bush when I went out to grab the mail.

After we were both done working, we went for a drive in our little truck. Hannah drove so that I could take pictures without us ending in the ditch. As you can see to the right, the lens requires all of two hands and isn't ideal for grab shots from the driver's seat.

Yes, I am shooting from the roof of our pickup. You should try it sometime!

I should also note that I'm not smiling at the new lens [although it is fun to use] but at Hannah: she got the above picture of me by holding her camera up out of the window and pointing towards my general location...all without looking or moving from her spot in the driver's seat.

Day 3: Although we went out for another drive that evening, we didn't catch enough sunlight and I ended up mostly shooting with my other lenses. But between a few I grabbed earlier in the day and the ones I did get on our drive, I did get a few keepers.

It's been several days already since Day 3, and we've been out exploring a few more times since then. I'm hoping we get plenty more before the grey of winter settles in and I get back to captioning and sorting pictures, and writing utilites to help folks do both. Until then, we'll keep enjoying the beautiful autumn weather in this beautiful state.
