Head of the Charles Regatta: A Faces Perspective, by Mel Snyder - Boston Photography Center

I am a people photographer. I do not understand why anyone would waste time and pixels shooting any lesser creations of God or man (or woman). I came to the regatta because I wanted to capture what makes crew so different than all other sports: Total subjugation of ego to the group. There is no room in the shell for the individualist. And yet, each oarsman dwells in a private space that many (especially women) display on their faces.

I think you are the only one that has really caught this! Team work and here it shows! Ego,perhaps! but more strenght and believing in one thing and only in that very moment of time.
JUST DO IT!
Really nice Mel!

Great approach to focusing the THE key element of the event, Mel!

So many photos of rowing (mine included) look alike - you can only take so many pictures of a boat on water and under bridges.

This is different. Nice stuff.

Interesting perspective; in nearly every photo it is impossible to tell the type of boat; just the type of people.

Way to go Mel. Regattas are about split seconds. Your photos of the people are just timeless.- Leon

Phenomenal – as always Dad!

Your unparalleled insight, expressed in both words and pictures, never ceases to inspire me. You capture moments of such high emotion that most people believe to be fleeting. It is usually not until these moments are over that we realize how important they really are. But you share your insight with the rest of the world with your photos – you provide a vehicle that the rest of us use to bring ourselves back to not just a time in our lives – but a moment. The adrenaline, sweat, tears…

So for all of us that don’t have your viewfinder in life, thanks for capturing all those moments Dad.

It is always a pleasure to ride the back roads with you…
