Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild

The Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild

is located on the start of the peninsula of Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat. It was the summer resort for the Baronness Béatrice de Rothschild and it is the most amazing place. It is a villa, but also a museum at the same time. The villa houses so many masterpieces; it has beautiful furniture’s, tapestries, sculptures and classical and modern paintings. It is all too much to absorb in one visit, but wow, fantastic to see.

It was built between 1905 and 1912 designed by the Belgian architect Aaron Messiah for the Rothschild banking family; Maurice Ephrussi and his wife Béatrice de Rothschild.

The Baroness filled the mansion with antique furniture, Old Master paintings, sculptures and an extensive collection of rare porcelain.

On her death in 1934, the Baroness gave the property and its collections to the Académie des Beaux Arts division of the Institut de France. It is now a museum.

The Villa has nine magnificent themed gardens.

A formal French garden, the Spanish and Florentine gardens; a Rose garden and rare trees in the Exotic garden. Also there's my favourite the The Japanese garden. The Stone garden contains a lot of archaeological remains

That's what I call "living with style". The gardens and the view are fascinating, as well.

There are four seasons, so I hope you've visited their other three houses, too.
