Electra Glide Service and Upgrades

It was time to get the bike ready for spring. This was a three part project.  Converting the stock exhaust to true duel exhaust, New Metzler front tire New Brakes and a Power Commander. The Power Commander is a computer that will make adjusting air to fuel accessible. The Stock computer is non adjustable and set at the factory. My problem that its set very lean and on a hot day while riding the bike it would burn my leg and If I  get more power, a bonus.

The Bike on the lift this is a heavy duty jack but it’s still hairy putting a 900 pound motorcycle on a jack. It takes me about a half hour to get the bike in the air and to strap it down.

The New tire is mounted and I use dynamic ceramic beads for balancing. This product is pretty new and I have used them on three bikes with really good results. Save’s me time in balancing tires and they never need to be rebalanced

This is the kit for the Duel exhaust; it was made by a small company Fulsac. It not much to look at out of the box but wow. This was a well designed kit great instructions with exact machining took about 2 hours to install but it looks great, sounds awesome and hopefully in concert with the power commander will reduce the heat under the seat

With the chrome heat shields removed and the mufflers removed . Time to unbolt the clamps and the nuts on the cylinder's head. Then with a dead blow hammer beat the old exaust off

With the front pipe installed and the rear cylinder it was time to resize the left side exhaust pipe. Taking the supplied mandrel and a hammer it was time to reshape the exhaust for a leak free fit.

This is the finished exaust looks awesome sounds great

Now it was time to install the power commander and this was pretty straight forwarded install. The company I purchased the commander from pre-installed the fuel map so with that step done all I had to do was clean the grungy road dirt that accumulated over three years and plug in the power commander to the bikes wiring harness then piggy back the power commander to the bike stock computer and the start the bike up .

Now time to install the front brake pads. After taping the front fender to prevent scratches it was time to remove the calipers and I did this after putting on the new tire on. I was not to keen on using a putty knife on the disk per the HD service manual to spread the pads in the caliper instead I use 99 cent door shims to depress the pistons to spread the calipers

I Guess I wont wait as long as I did one pad is worn but the other pad there is no pad just metal , Ouch NOT GOOD

New pad installed in the calipers this is were the door wedges work and work well.

Done and ready for the spring the only thing left is to take the bike off the jack and wait for the a little warmer weather, I do want to put a high flow air cleaner on or a hyper charger but that is for another week end.
