How about 80 flaps per second

The Maine Event

While visiting my girlfriend's family I was finally able to get close - armed with a lot of patience- to a fascinating subject. Getting close was one thing trying to get a good exposure on a manual setting was another. Hope you folks enjoy.

really nice shots - my husband would love these. (he a thing for hummingbirds) what kind of camera and settings did you use to get these?

Amazing - we have a couple of feeders and several regular hummers each spring/summer but I've yet to be able to catch one on film! Well done!

Thanks to all for the kind comments. For those who are interested with the technical details:

I use a Canon EOS Rebel XT
Shutter speed: 1/1000
Aperture: f5.6
ISO: 400
Focal Length: 238mm

yes patience was the definite keyword as I started about 10 feet from the flowers and anytime the bird left I would move a few inches closer since it was just resting on a nearby tree and i did not want to scare it away. thanks again.

This is fantastic! I will add it to my favorites. I have tried to take pictures of hummingbirds in action. Not an easy task. Needless to say I haven't had very good luck since I don't have hummingbirds in any of my Tabblos. I know this took alot of patience. It really paid off. Very well done!
