Rita.Mandarino said at 12:40 p.m. on Feb 19, 2008: Hi pamela, I prefer the Real Thing.Nice shots, very interesting tabblo.
Spilly0901 said at 12:40 p.m. on Feb 19, 2008: Those kind of building signs are so hard to find! I'm amazed that you caught one of each. Personally, I'm a Diet Coke gal! :)
Leftofcenter said at 12:42 p.m. on Feb 19, 2008: tried to avoid this decade old existential question "pepsi or coke" for the longest time, once in a while we need to re-affirm our convictions.. let me think... but those photos, kewl +++, classic Keener.
Gretel said at 12:51 p.m. on Feb 19, 2008: I prefer Fanta! LOL LOL
Hollyridger said at 12:54 p.m. on Feb 19, 2008: Cool tabblo!
Pkeener said at 12:59 p.m. on Feb 19, 2008: Yes, it's the age old question that human beings love to obsess over. you know, Lefite, the IMPORTATNT things. thakns, Gayle, i really made this just to use the images...
Gretel, that doesn't surprise me in the least. Orange or Grape?
Pkeener said at 1:01 p.m. on Feb 19, 2008: Hi Noreen! and Rita, me too! the REAL thing. i don't drinkl much soda pop these days..but COKE is my choice. With the sugar AND the caffiene!
Gretel said at 1:07 p.m. on Feb 19, 2008: My own private Fanta recipe: 1/2 Fanta Orange, 1/2 Fanta Grape, 1/2 Fanta Mango (yes, there is Fanta Mango - in Thailand!) and 1/2 2elf yo Scotch, plus ice cubes and lots of absinthe! LOL
PHS_Wrestling said at 1:15 p.m. on Feb 19, 2008: Wonder why the Coke slogan looks so much less worn? Is the lower part of the sign more sheltered from the weather?
I don't drink soda much (can't handle much caffeine these days), but would probably pick Coke if I had to choose.
Pkeener said at 1:17 p.m. on Feb 19, 2008: Gretel, where do you get your Absinthe? I thought it was a controlled substance. Maybe Granny has her own private stock of WORMWOOD?
Maybe the Slogan was painted on later. That building is in a very old part of town. 29th and Zuni.
Gretel said at 1:35 p.m. on Feb 19, 2008: Granny produces her own absinthe, Pammie. It's a bit stronger than da regular ones (about 150% alcohol by volume LOL LOL). Our "green fairy" is called "Incredible Hulk"... LOL
Bxrgirl27 said at 1:36 p.m. on Feb 19, 2008: Coke please!
Keeli said at 1:39 p.m. on Feb 19, 2008: I just can't pigeon hole myself . . . I like to change it up! ;-)
Pattymaryclare said at 1:51 p.m. on Feb 19, 2008: H20 only pour moi, s'il vous plait! Now, if they'd retore the orignal Coke formula in ...I might change my mind! LOL LOL pmc
SeánanForbes said at 1:51 p.m. on Feb 19, 2008: Are the two -- the Coke advertisement and the Pepsi -- close to each other?
Noe said at 1:52 p.m. on Feb 19, 2008: I prefer the Real Thing too =P hehe, I love those kind of buildings and signs, very nice Pam!! =)
AliDar said at 1:55 p.m. on Feb 19, 2008: Sparkling water with lime is my choice. ... And I've been trying to figure out what the real thing is for years!
Pkeener said at 1:59 p.m. on Feb 19, 2008: These signs are not in the same neighborhood, maybe about 5 miles apart. Well, Dar, I guess you can just teach the world to sing, or have a coke and a smile...
Pkeener said at 2:08 p.m. on Feb 19, 2008: thanks, Amiga!
Flinkfar said at 2:09 p.m. on Feb 19, 2008: I prefer the danish version, that's the "Jolly Cola"..............
Wflorence said at 2:16 p.m. on Feb 19, 2008: I used to live in Atlanta and you wouldn't get caught with a Pepsi there. However, I prefer Pepsi.
LatentE said at 2:47 p.m. on Feb 19, 2008: Nice images of American icons. The fading doesn't even effect the impact since the slogans are so iconic. They probably aren't even paying for the ads anymore but still getting the benefit. As for slogans, even as a kid I found one a bit strange, even creepy. Seven-Up had "You like it. It likes you." Oh Kay..
Pkeener said at 3:12 p.m. on Feb 19, 2008: Bill, i read all about that crazy coca cola family! they were also in the novel The Prince of Tides. I grew up on Coke, and never knew why until a few years ago..my dad was in the army and when i was a kid (maybe even still) the commisary and PX only stocked coke!
I know, that 7up thing used to creep me out!
Leftofcenter said at 3:24 p.m. on Feb 19, 2008: I tend to lean towards (Jack &) COKE but this Pepsi commercial is pretty darn cool: PINK in da house- no pink scarf, Brit, Beyonce and cutie ENRIQUE Iglesias................. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SkELRp4wKPs
ElZorroTOX said at 3:38 p.m. on Feb 19, 2008: As a Coca Cola man I'd preferred if their picture was on top ;-)
Akeke said at 4:18 p.m. on Feb 19, 2008: milk for me! :-) Åke
Liliana said at 5:27 p.m. on Feb 19, 2008: I love your two "icons"!!!!! Where have you found them?? How old they are? I like so much the walls, the paint (and not painted pieces...). Perfect! I am sorry, I can´t stand Pepsi not Coca ... I always prefer...water! Yes, when my husband and children drink Coca Cola of Pepsi or something like this, I drink water. Of course, if I have a real juice near, I will drink it!! ;)
Andre. said at 5:33 p.m. on Feb 19, 2008: Grand idea
Gerardfotografeert said at 5:37 p.m. on Feb 19, 2008: Marvellous tabblo Pam and a great catch. I like those old and weather beaten painted commercials.
Candlepower said at 5:59 p.m. on Feb 19, 2008: So cool love these old building signs. Really good one!
Pkeener said at 5:59 p.m. on Feb 19, 2008: thank you captain Grerard!! Liliana, both of these photos are on the sides of old buildings in Denver Colorado, and i am not sure how old the advertisements are, but i might have to go research them now! Ake, Tack! hey Rich, it was all about the composition of the tabblo. Hey Andre! thank you. i love finding these and documenting them while they are still here.
Nakedeast said at 6:40 p.m. on Feb 19, 2008: There is nothing like the real thing. Cool tabblo!
SteveBrisendine said at 8:35 p.m. on Feb 19, 2008: Love the shots ... but I'm an RC man myself.
Jigs said at 10:05 p.m. on Feb 19, 2008: COKE IS ... still and will always be ... IT for me! In fact, in the Pepsi Challenge back in the 80s, I could tell even by just smell, which is which.
MHCityPlanner said at 10:47 p.m. on Feb 19, 2008: Nice work seeing these; urban planners like myself still can't figure out whether to preserve or remove. But all things considered these old hand-painted wall signs are "blemishes" on the streetscape that give cities and neighborhoods their character. Great capture.
Abking said at 12:34 a.m. on Feb 20, 2008: Sign-wise, I like the Pepsi best. It has a faded but sturdy look. I preferred Coke for years, recently flip-flopped to Pepsi. Don't drink much of either. If I do, it's got to be very cold, or it just tastes like the sugary syrupy mess that it is. Right place, right time, either tastes great. I don't like to get all uppity about conglomerate affiliations.
Fredzee said at 4:37 a.m. on Feb 20, 2008: I like these old inscription, when the past do us remember we are here since a long time... and you suggest one of the main big choices of our life... coke or pepsi... apple or pc... cheese or dessert... dog or cat... black or white... rhum or wisky... jazz or rock... slip ou caleçon... girl or boy... Then I do not choose and take both alternately or together ! :) ebonyyyyy and ivoryyyyy live together in perfect... harmonyyyyyy.... let's sing together !!
Leftofcenter said at 6:55 a.m. on Feb 20, 2008: side by side on my piano keyboard Oh Lord, why don't weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Lifequest22 said at 9:02 a.m. on Feb 20, 2008: I used to drink Pepsi and then i stopped liking it and now it's Coke.
Leftofcenter said at 9:03 a.m. on Feb 20, 2008: that's a meaningless comment amiga.
Lifequest22 said at 9:12 a.m. on Feb 20, 2008: It was for you, Leftie. I know you love my meaningless comments.
Pkeener said at 9:21 a.m. on Feb 20, 2008: Hi Allan. I like that pepsi sign a lot. it is on the side of an old laundromat on Colfax Ave. i meant to include it in my Not Fade Away tabblo, but couldnt for the life of me, remember where it was to take the photo! Freddie! these are very difficult decisions to make on a daily basis. CHOICES. I like your solution. Why not have it all? its the American way, after all! Bob, you know how far that would have gotten! PK+PS=??? and as for you, amigas..i have no time for meaningless comments. too busy trying to decide what i should drink!
Fredzee said at 10:05 a.m. on Feb 20, 2008: Thanks Pomsie for this experimentation. You made here an evident demonstration of the pavlov's reflex ! You propose Coke or Pepsi ? Everybody answered after years of mental conditioning ! no more pictures analysis... no more art comment ! i don't remember my name... Oh, i have something important to tell you ... Yes, i remember : i prefer Pepsi ! sorry i have to go... i have a sudden thirst... i have to buy it right now .....
Leftofcenter said at 10:09 a.m. on Feb 20, 2008: elle est sévère la critique.. mais c toujours comme ça à tabblo, that's why we call it meaningless comments... just joking of course...
Fredzee said at 10:16 a.m. on Feb 20, 2008: glglglglglglglglou ..... aaaaaaaaaaaaah ! (****~~ sparkling ~~**** )
Leftofcenter said at 10:20 a.m. on Feb 20, 2008: un de ces 4 tu me diras quel traducteur en ligne tu utilises!!!!!!!!!!!!!! sparkling?????
Fredzee said at 10:52 a.m. on Feb 20, 2008: ouuaaiiis... qui fait des bulles, quoi !!!...
Leftofcenter said at 10:55 a.m. on Feb 20, 2008: j'ava compris, j'ai googlé "glou...aaaah" et ç'a donné: champagne....................
Fredzee said at 11:07 a.m. on Feb 20, 2008: :)))) une coupe pls !
Lifequest22 said at 1:16 p.m. on Feb 20, 2008: Did anyone know that coke, probably Pepsi too, makes a good drain cleaner. Really. I'm not making this up. Aside from that trivia, i love old signs especially on redbrick buildings. They always give me that sentimental nostalgic feeling. It seems like the visual contact sets off some memory cells and i recall the feeling of some time, some place long ago.
AliDar said at 1:31 p.m. on Feb 20, 2008: Hey, I think I bought that 'I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing' single.... I can just remember singing along with it, with feeling! ... Now there's nostalgia! (chuckling)
AliDar said at 1:42 p.m. on Feb 20, 2008: I did an art installation in my college flat once, that was a testament to just how much diet coke I drank. It was a shopping cart, and everytime I drank a 500 ml bottle, I put the empty in. It didn't take long to fill the cart. ... I can't drink the stuff anymore, I think it ate the lining of my stomach away. lol
AliDar said at 1:47 p.m. on Feb 20, 2008: one from these 4 you will say to me which translator on line you use!!!!!!!!!!!!!! sparkling ..... Babelfish.
Leftofcenter said at 1:49 p.m. on Feb 20, 2008: thx DAR-ling :)
Leftofcenter said at 1:52 p.m. on Feb 20, 2008: but a real life translator would have come up with: one of these days you will tell me which online translator you use.
Pkeener said at 1:52 p.m. on Feb 20, 2008: You are most welcome, Fred. I love this sparkling controversy! yes, Linda, i did hear that, and i also heard that they used Pepsi to clean batteries in Auto repair shops. LOL. Love these Urban Legends. Hey Dar, that sounds like some installation. i cant imagine all that caffiene cursing through your veins. Um, by the way..where did you purloin the cart from?
AliDar said at 1:56 p.m. on Feb 20, 2008: the babelfish translation was much more conceptual. <G> ... Found the shopping cart in the parking lot behind the flat. it had been abandoned by some lysol drinking fellow or another that use to sleep back there.
Cowgirl said at 10:48 p.m. on Feb 20, 2008: Were is DR. PEPPER ???????
Pkeener said at 10:54 p.m. on Feb 20, 2008: at 10 2 and 4!!
JuDeck said at 11:06 a.m. on Feb 21, 2008: coke...because it mixes so much better with other liquids...and it keeps the pipes clean
Domieb2 said at 11:57 a.m. on Feb 21, 2008: It's the Real Thing for me! All those years ago, at the very end of my first preggercy, I craved Coke. I still like to have it with a nice greezy piece of pizza now and then too :-)
Decoy said at 1:04 p.m. on Feb 21, 2008: You made the tabblo with the photos in mind, and therefore I'll give you an answer based on the photos! =) I love the pepsi-buildning - it has a very nice punch. And the brickwall really comes through in a fantastic way! Now.. bottom up with the right thing! =)
UrbanParadoxes said at 8:31 p.m. on Feb 21, 2008: Great photos of some "fallen flags," Pam
Debdog said at 12:02 a.m. on Feb 22, 2008: have a COKE and a smile....:)
Memotions said at 8:19 a.m. on Feb 22, 2008: Coke has been the real thing for a pretty long time.....and judging by the age of the Pepsi sign (and shape of the cap) I'm pretty sure it was "for those who think young". Now I'll be singing THAT old jingle all day......Hey I still THINK young, but my constitution prefers green tea these days. :)
Pkeener said at 8:46 a.m. on Feb 22, 2008: Patty, you are so right. i was tring to figure out which era that pepsi cap was, and i guess i was thinking it was the pepsi generation..but i am now thinking that iingle was around the pop top cans slogan's era. amazing how these jingles live somewhere in our brains and when triggered, we can still sing them!! Thank you Frank! welcome beack. Anna, you know how much i like these old buildings...thank you for your great comment. hey Domi, i craved the real thing when i was pregnant, too! forbidden fruit, i guess!
Ebucar said at 12:37 p.m. on Feb 22, 2008: I prefer Guaraná, of course, the Brazilian national soda... Otherwise, give me a passion fruit juice... or water!
Waseem said at 2:37 p.m. on Feb 23, 2008: i dont drink soda, but i love this tabblo!
Memotions said at 5:58 p.m. on Feb 23, 2008: Oh Pam...sometimes it's a curse. Brusha brusha brusha....with the new Ipana......blah blah blah....it's dandy for your teeth...OR It's AJAX, the foaming cleanser (boom boom boom boom boom boom boom) and let's not even get into the Burmashave signs.....I think I actually got into writing jingles a couple of decades ago because I knew just how influencial they were. Sight and sound always go together to make a lasting memory. Loved this Pam.
Pkeener said at 1:49 a.m. on Feb 24, 2008: Plop plop fizz fizz...thanks, Patty. love your thoughts. i remember having contests with my siblings to see who could sing the most jingles..i think i feel a earworm coming on.
Mashpee_Paula said at 5:27 a.m. on Feb 24, 2008: Not a soda drinker either, Pam! But I love your photo's, the buildings....and my brother's and I would do the same thing (still do sometimes:)) Thanks, Pam!
Krisu said at 12:09 p.m. on Feb 24, 2008: I don't drink soda either, but I like this tabblo!

GeorgePL said at 8:29 p.m. on Feb 26, 2008: I like these. In they're day, well even today, they were advertisements and still are to an extent. Now they're really historical landmarks.
They're more significant now. For example if you've ever seen the movie, Jumanji with Robin Williams, one scene takes place in front of a Coke sign that's painted on my grandmother's building! It's still in the family and a declared national landmark in Keene, NH.
Pkeener said at 9:31 a.m. on Feb 27, 2008: George, i agree with you, and i would also love to see that building! Do you have a phot handy?
Thank you Afonso!
Lifequest22 said at 10:33 a.m. on Feb 27, 2008: I love Jumanji-For awhile, I even had the screen scaver which was very cool. I'll have to watch it again and look for the building.
