Taking pictures - Åke's 8 tips

1. Get closer. And zoom closer. Imagine that the picture will eventually show up as a little square on a tabblo!

2. Use the  grid and choose a line crossing for the “eye”-focus.

3. Use a frame if you can, or something in the foreground. It gives depth to the picture

4.Guide the eyes with lines; a path, road, creek or wall. We tend to like to look from left to right and from bottom and up.

1. Closer is often more interesting

Well done, this is very well done. How about adding "be prepared to crop". I often find that what looked like a dud can become a very interesting photo with some judicious cropping.

Noreen: Brother Crop is a close relative to Sister Go-Closer. I almost always crop my pictures. But I dont know any short good advice How-to, just the 8th: Experiment.
Hollyridger said at 2:36 p.m. on Dec 9, 2006:
Yes, you are right! "Experiment" is what it is all about. I find that Picasa2 works very well for cropping. First of all I click open a photo then I zoom in on it using the zoom feature (bottom right). Using the mouse it is easy to move the photo around to arrive at a pleasing crop, experimenting at various zoom levels. Picasa places a rectangle around the zoomed area that is easy to replicate with the Crop tool. Knowing that Picasa does not change the original photo I have fun cropping and changing until I arrive at something I want to save. This is hard to explain so just ask if I am not making myself clear!
Akeke said at 3:03 p.m. on Dec 9, 2006:
Totally agree with you! And if you didnt remember my second advice (Use a grid) then you can correct that with cropping. Tabblo is helping you in cropping to. When pictures kinda shrink into small rectangles it is sometimes cropped and that sometimes give me the idea to crop differently.
