East Dragon West Tiger

When one entering any ancient Chinese buildings like Palaces, Court Houses, Temples, Clan Houses or any official buildings; be it in China, Vietnam, Singapore or Malaysia,  if you cared to observe,  upon entering through the main gate, on the wall on your right hand side, there would be the motiff of a Dragon, and opposite on the wall on the left hand side will be the motiff of the Tiger.

This indicates that the house is normally built on the lot of land on the North with the main entrance facing the South.  The Dragon and Tiger shows the direction of East and West respectively.

The motiff or figurine of Dragon and Tiger can also be found on both side of the headstone of the Chinese grave too.

Hi....please note that tiger is a real life animal, but during the olden days, it was quite rare for the artist to see a real life tiger, so, the image of the tigers above were made or drawn through hear-say or vague description fromothers. Whereas the dragon is an animal exist only as a myth, thus the artists just let their imagination ran wild and came out with a much better results.

Anyway, thank you all the for the kind comments.
