Mariefred - Pax Mariae

Mariefred

is a small town in Sweden, with a population around 5000.

The name comes from the old Catholic monastery "Pax Mariae" - Mary's Peace that was built here 1495.

You can come here by Steamship from Stockholm.

It leaves from central Stockholm every day during summer. See website of Sailing Company for times.

Gripsholm Castle

Gripsholm

The main tourist attraction in Mariefred is Gripsholms Castle.  The castle was built in the second half of the 14th century by Bo Johnsson Grip. Hence the name of the castle.

The Swedish National Portrait Collection

one of Europe's oldest national portrait galleries is located here (top floors)

The Artilllery guns: The Boar and the Sow

Mariefred

is a small pittoresque town with small narrow street. They serve good food at the oldest Inn / restaurant in Sweden, built 1609. Probably there was a "pub" here already in the 11th century.

See website Gripsholms Värdshus for more info

If you like to take a ride on a old train, you can go with locomotives and carriages dating from 1890-1925.

I would rather agree with ElZorroTOX. Apart from the great pictures and the nice places that they have been shot, there is an educational background that makes you Tabblos even more interesting. GREAT JOBS!
