Mariefred is a small town in Sweden, with a population around 5000.
The name comes from the old Catholic monastery "Pax Mariae" - Mary's Peace that was built here 1495.

Gripsholm The main tourist attraction in Mariefred is Gripsholms Castle. The castle was built in the second half of the 14th century by Bo Johnsson Grip. Hence the name of the castle. |

Mariefred is a small pittoresque town with small narrow street. They serve good food at the oldest Inn / restaurant in Sweden, built 1609. Probably there was a "pub" here already in the 11th century.
