Did you know this ...

about Vikings?

The Viking Age is the name of the period between 750 and 1100 AD in Scandinavia.

The creation of The Earth according to Vikings

The Old Norse Gods were not regarded as immortal

The vikings did not have horns on their helmets

During Bronze Age - which comes later -horned helmet might have been used as a cerimonial tool.

Anundshög, burial ground with runic stone

The word Viking comes from the Old Norse word, vík, meaning bay or inlet.

Another explaniation is that the term comes from old English, wíc (trading city) which comes from Latin vicus meaning village.

The Sigurd carving

is a runic carving not on a stone but into a flat rock. Located 1 km from where I live. It's from around 1000 AD and tells the story of Sigurd killing the evil snake Fafner.

The saga comes from the Edda which are collections of folk-tales relating to Viking Mythology or Viking Heroes. The Edda was written by the Icelandic historian Snorre Sturlasson around 1220.

The carving above is the first picture of a craftsman's tool in Sweden. It show among other things the black smith's hammer and blowing-on-the-fire device.

Waterlevel was about 50 meters higher than today.

The Vikings in England had a particular reputation of excessive cleanliness.

Ahh :-)) Great !! I knew, this would make a fantastic Tabblo, you best ambassador of Sweden :-)) Oh, this reminds me to work a bit on the continuation of Sigurd = Siegfried story here in Worms :-) (for you other Tabblo'ers: Worms is a city in Rhineland Palatine, situated at the Rhine river, this is where Siegfried's story continues as saga of Niebelungs)
Akeke said at 8:44 a.m. on Nov 26, 2006:
Yes this saga is used in many countries and stories. Classical Good against evil.
