Hummus Recipe

The ingredients (minus the water)

Ingredients:

2 Cans of garbanzo beans (chick peas)

8 oz of Sesame Tahini (half a jar)

3-4 cloves of garlic (to taste)

4-8 (to taste) freshly squeezed limes (you could use lemons)

Sea Salt to taste (I use a little less than 2 teaspoons)

Water

I first tried Hummus about 7 or 8 years ago. I cannot recall who introduced me to it but it was either my brother or our friend Lili.

If you've never had it I suggest giving it a shot. Now that I am (mostly) vegetarian this is one of the staples of my diet.

...and it is so simple to make.

Garlic and Garbanzo beans

Get your food processor out.

Add the following items one at a time (in order) and crank the food processor: garlic, garbanzo beans, Tahini (found near peanut butter at some stores), lime juice, and salt. Now add water until it reaches the desired consistency.

I prefer mine a bit runny.

Adding the Tahini

Fresh squeezed limes

The finished product

Serve and if you like add a little paprika, dried basil and olive oil.

I like mine with crostini (as shown) but you can serve it with bread or vegetables. I added some kalamata olives to mine in the picture.

Hummus also makes a wonderful sandwich spread.

Time to eat.

I like hummus, and I like this illustrated recipe/tabblo too. I've never heard garbanzos called pigeon peas, just "chick peas." For your outdoor pursuits you can get dehydrated hummus. Not as good as what you have here, but it hits the spot when you're in the middle of nowhere.

Miam Miam, il y a tout ce que j'aime dans cette recette, de l'ail, des pois-chiches, du citron, des olives, du sésame, une recette aux saveurs méditerranéennes. Bravo et merci de nous la révéler. Amitiés.

I make hummus all the time! I also do a variation by adding about a dozen kalamata olives (pitted of course!) and about 1/4 c. roasted red peppers. I put them in last to keep them a little chunky along with the smooth hummus. Adds a nice Mediterranean flavor.

ROBERT: Glad you liked it. MONICA: Thanks for the suggestions! I tried it with roasted red peppers and while I liked it I preferred the "plain" version better. I will definitely try your olive variation as I am an olive "nut."
