Kite-Surfers in Kenosha

I don't know that Wisconsin is known for its surf, but on sunny, windy, spring Saturdays like today, it seemed perfectly natural.

One kite-surfer repeatedly lept off the pier into the sand, and the other lept into the water.

Who knew?

Lake Michigan: the new Pacific!

The temperature was 38ºF without the wind.  With the wind, it had to be below freezing.

Evidently, it's hard work.

Only once did their lines get crossed and bring down their kites, but the wind made it easy to get right back to it.

With a Civil War Program going on across the harbor, the kite-surfers had the beach and pier to themselves, mostly.

The wind must have been blowing north-northeast, because it pushed them repeatedly up the shore.

Despite the show they put on, not many people were brave enough to suffer the wind to watch for very long.

After hours of kite-surfing, it seemed their energy finally wound down.  I wish I could say the same for the whipping wind.

So neat! Looks like fun but would prefer to spare the wind burns
