Hidden In Plain Sight

I was trying to take pictures of these ducks, but they were so far away I couldn't see what I was taking...

So, I zoomed all the way in on them, and never realized I caught something else in my shots...

A lumbering raccoon was fishing with them on the far side of the pond. I never even saw him.

It wasn't until I got home and blew up the pics that I realized what a zoo I was looking at.

Those are male wood ducks and buffleheads, neither of which I've ever seen in the wild before.

Sandhill cranes have returned to the area finally.

Canada geese, who never left, are pairing up, too.

Playing well together were Canada geese, mallards, buffleheads, wood ducks and who-knows-what-else that I still haven't identified.

Not to play favorites, bu the wood ducks are truly magnificent looking birds!

A herd of deer grazing on the grass fed by treated wastewater. I've never seen so many together before.

Friendly deer, they were.

A very shy cardinal.

I could not get a good shot of this guy, but I was still somehow able to identify him as a Northern shoveler, yet another common waterfowl I've never seen in the wild.

Man, there is nothing like having a powerful camera with a great zoom lens to show me all the things I'm seeing, but don't know I'm seeing.
