Da Jai Jenn Lann Temple

Da Jai (name of a town in middle Taiwan) Jenn Lann Temple is an important temple in Taiwan. The Godness inside is Mazu. In Chinese, Jenn Lann means "calm the storm". Mazu is the Godness guarding the sea and is very popular in the fishing village in southeast China.

left: Everyone participating Mazu's trip will take a flag. This one is the leading flag.

 

bottom: In the main worship hall of the temple, I saw surveillance cameras and modern clocks.

 

above: These are puppet of some god and godness who will join Mazu during the trip.

Every year, Mazu choose a date to visit her friends (Mazu in other temple). Many Mazu's believers will follow her on foot during the 8 days trip. They usually start the trip in mid night. This year, Mazu will start her trip on April 5th.

I was there and walked April 5, 2008 to honor our Goddess of the Sea. Your pictures are beautiful I hope to see you there walking with Her in 2009.
