THIS OLD HOUSE- (and my 100th Tabblo!)

long gone but legacy lives on.

Grandpa passed away when I was only maybe 8 or 9 and Grandma when I was 13 I believe....My dear Mother, their youngest child, one of 9...left us 8 years ago.  Most aunties and uncles gone now too!  All except one.  This indeed is a special Tabblo for me.

The porch i loved to sit in sun

hey little guy! r u guarding their house?

LOVE THE OLD WINDOWS AND EAVES!

'they put up a parking lot!' ~j.Mitchell

I just happened to have an appt. in a dental office in my new place of residence (pop. 16,000 and a large farm community surrounding it) and spotted this house and thought ...'THAT LOOKS JUST LIKE GRAMMA & GRAMPA'S HOUSE!"  They retired into Camrose after homesteading many years in this area.  Sure enough, I found out 2 days later from the dentists that yes, there used to a lumber yard across the street and then I KNEW it was their house.  I hadn't seen for at least 40+ years but am amazed that I still intuitively knew it was the house where so many wonderful meals were devoured! and my Mom and aunties spoke in German with Grandma....Grampa sat in his leather chair in dining room and sweetly smiled and talked so softly!.....My mother was like him!.  I intend to contact the 'business' it now is, THE CITIZEN'S ADVOCACY GROUP,  to see if I may come in to take pictures of the magnificent woodwork, fireplace etc. very soon!  What A WONDERFUL FIND for me.....brought out many nostalgic and good memories....PMC

What a wonderful gift you have been given. This looks like a house a wonderful loving Grandm and Grandpa would live in. I'm sure you will be allowed in to take pictures. As a dennist office you know it will be taken care of.

With reference to YorkJodi's query re the bird I have to say I'm baffled. Almost looks like some avian hanky-panky may have taken place and we now have a hybrid American robin. I've thoroughly scanned Peterson's Field Guide to Western Birds and Birds of Alberta and cannot find a match. It's a new one on me.
Pattymaryclare said at 8:06 p.m. on Apr 4, 2008:
My first instinct was that it looked like a cross between a blue jay and a robin...what say you mein Papa?? C'est une possible? c'est mo!

One sencitive tribute. The top photo is " they don't make'em like that anymore" theme.:)

Dad...Jodi...a friend has said they think this bird is a 'red-breated nuthatch' or sitta canadensis' Quote from 'The Birds of Alberta'book: "The nasal 'yank-yank' call of the Red-breasted Nuthatch is a very familiar sound throughout the forested regions of Alberta."...Can you confirm that one alnorman?
Pattymaryclare said at 12:58 a.m. on Apr 5, 2008:
uh er... Red-breaSted Nuthatch' ...spelling/typos... The bird's 'mask' gives it an almost sinister look. ....He looks rather menacing with the black crown. I think we have our 'birdie'. LOL thx everyone for your kind comments and the 'inside' shots of 'This Old House II' WILL be, interestingly enough, MY 100TH tabblo. How very fitting I think...Patty out

Very good and sincere Tabblo! Remarkable photos and words. It is very heavy to lose the native people. And I from the bottom of the heart sympathize to you. Wonderfully that you remember them and like.

That is just Awesome! What Wonderful memories! I am happy for you!
Alnorman57 said at 10:01 a.m. on Apr 5, 2008:
Guess I didn't look closely enough. I agree with Jodi; it is definitly a Red-breasted nuthatch. My book didn't have a good representation of it. Personally, I've never seen one, unfortunately.

wow this is a great find...........:) thank you!
Memotions said at 12:29 p.m. on Apr 7, 2008:
Gotta laugh....I was going to use Deb's exact words. In addition to "what a find!", it is coincidental that your mother was one of nine, so was ours'. Our Mum passed away April 14, 2002. This Tabblo makes me feel so sentimental....Thanks Patty, for sharing.
Bethe27 said at 6:23 p.m. on Apr 7, 2008:

Pattymaryclare said at 7:04 p.m. on Apr 7, 2008:
Thanks Swedfinn, sisfriends Debs & Patty!and my dear Rhonda...their wedding picture i used to gaze at in AWE - mezmerized really.,...they were both the most handsome and beautiful young bride and groom. I DO WISH I KNEW who got that portrait!!! Grandma got a little heavier 50 yrs later but not Grandpa! He was just SO VERY MUCH I think where my Mom's gene's and personality came from. YES BETH...i AM ANXIOUSLY awaiting a callback form the 'Citizen's Advocacy Group' that now occupies the house. They sure don't work IN there much LOL and yes therre will be a Tabblo, the moment I'm done! Very excited here and waiting........THANK YOU ONE AND ALL AGAIN....luv Patty

This is really great for you patty. To come "home"
It is a hard thing to grow up and then start losing all your role models, aunts, uncles, parents, loved ones.
I home it all works out for you.

Well I'll just add today that due to Enaldo's new group 'Celebration' it occurred to me I didn't think of even passing the 100th tabblo mark....THIS HERE TABBLO (LOL) was the 100th and how very speical in thyat it was when I found the way old heritage house of my Grandparents when I moved away from Calgary this past March to Camrose (up to 158 tabs now omg! how time flies huh whern we're all haviing fun!) DECIDED I BETTER GIVE IT A SUBTITLE to mark that photography/tabblo 'watershed momen'! tho' i've kinda been in 'hiding' mode and yet still 'making them' to get me thru some 'hard stuff' (sorry all for not many comments of late!) You alll be Beethoven and I'll be 'Bach'..ok? lol much luv to all my friendz here xox Patty
