LatentE said at 1:48 a.m. on Apr 22, 2008: I wasn't trying to be cute. "History" has been described by feminists as a male oriented word - his story. I haven't found a good synonym for history. The OED has an early entry for "thystory," but that doesn't work. Well behaved women rarely change the world. Well behaved women rarely improve the world. Well behaved women rarely lead. Well behaved women? Why not well behaved men? Well behaved women get fleeced regularly. Joan of Arc was not a well behaved woman. ??
Pkeener said at 1:50 a.m. on Apr 22, 2008: I knew you weren't trying to be cute. I love your insight! Thank you! this just makes my tabblo better.
Fredzee said at 1:56 a.m. on Apr 22, 2008: LOL :) My favorite cat wants to add something : "Let drive in Paris its car to his wife, it is to want another car or another woman"... poor belgian cat in Paris! he has no driving licence... :)
Pkeener said at 1:58 a.m. on Apr 22, 2008: BRAVO!! Merci, fredhead! Ok, now this is ironic. All of the tabblo comments are from da BOYZ so far!! Guess all da Girlz are getting their beauty rest.
Fredzee said at 2:01 a.m. on Apr 22, 2008: well behaved women rarely comment that tabblo!...
Pkeener said at 2:06 a.m. on Apr 22, 2008: Interesting observation, Dr ZZZZZ
Fredzee said at 2:24 a.m. on Apr 22, 2008: one more : Histoy in french is a real Female word (we said "LA GRANDE HISTOIRE") and joan of arc becames a symbol of french extremist men... about relativity of things...
LatentE said at 2:33 a.m. on Apr 22, 2008: The OED (Oxford English Dictionary) did list "histoire" as an early version of history. "History" probably is derived from the French so the modern English concern about "his story" is probably not based on anything but the sound of the word. I don't know anything about language derivation. Maybe it's originally a Latin or Greek word.
LatentE said at 2:47 a.m. on Apr 22, 2008: I didn't have etymology turned on. It seems to be both from Latin and Greek though I can't figure out much beyond that or how the word differs from "story."
Jigs said at 2:52 a.m. on Apr 22, 2008: well-behaved women seem to be an anachronism in this tabblo, hence there none such creatures commenting. but what is there to say but... brava, pam! ;-)
would you consider the Filipino word for history as an alternative - KASAYSAYAN. most words in my language do not have gender references, hence no one is alienated with his or her story. :-)
Fredzee said at 3:34 a.m. on Apr 22, 2008: good conclusion Jigs!
Ira said at 5:26 a.m. on Apr 22, 2008: Good collection for the bad girls. Funny:)))
Wildthing said at 5:52 a.m. on Apr 22, 2008: I haven't come across many well-behaved women. Only those who choose - and know how - to appear well-behaved when the occasion suits. Well-behaved can = boring. I prefer a little zany wickedness in the mix. As for making history: Babies grow up to make history, so I guess women - well-behaved or not - do make history. And most girls DO kick ass, one way or another. :) I still have the metaphorical bruises on both cheeks :)
Leftofcenter said at 6:51 a.m. on Apr 22, 2008: What's well-behaved?? it's all relative. Women kick ass good AND bad. The buck stops here. If Mama ain't happy, ain't effin nobody happy. And blue camis rule.
Cowgirl said at 8:40 a.m. on Apr 22, 2008: Great Tabblo to us BAD GIRLS and thanks to the guys for their great comments on us BAD GIRLS
Pkeener said at 8:52 a.m. on Apr 22, 2008: Bobbi, the other side of the first bumper sticker said "Cowgirls kick ass" i thought of you!! But this is a 2 fer. Amen Jigs! Well, I have been both, and i must say, being well behaved has its place, but i haven't figured it out, yet. ;D Its very hard living down the reputation for bing "good" Hey Sis! Blue camis Rule!

EMA said at 9:59 a.m. on Apr 22, 2008: Very interesting to see how two simple pictures with two simple sentences can cause so much controversy? :-) I tend to say: Misbehave but with class! LOL
Pkeener said at 10:43 a.m. on Apr 22, 2008: YES! EMA! Misbehave with class.
YorkJodi said at 4:27 p.m. on Apr 22, 2008: Fun bumper stickers... good job finding them... and making such an interesting tabblo... so many well thought out comments. I tend to agree with "being good = boring" ... maybe you (we) could just misbehave but don't get caught or do anything illegal... haha
Pattymaryclare said at 4:54 p.m. on Apr 22, 2008: THIS WAS TOOOOO FUNNY 2 FER PAM!...I HAVE A TEESHIRT FROM BANFF (ROCKIES IN ALBERTA) THAT SAYS "MOUNTAIN GIRLS KICK ASS'!?! Pkeener said at 4:58 p.m. on Apr 22, 2008: Jodi, that would be the smart girl thing to do! I love reading bumper stickers..its so much fun. I even have it down to knowing what kind of cars will have certain stickers. Most of them are serendipity and they are right in front of my face. I did chase down the second one, though.

Siagian said at 1:06 a.m. on Apr 23, 2008: LOL! an interesting footnote to this discussion would be the apparent condition of the rear bumpers of these vehicles! =) it kind of slightly informs the interesting commentary that ensues...albeit unintentionally...=D
Pattymaryclare said at 2:05 a.m. on Apr 23, 2008: You know Siagian...when I saw that dent in right rear bumper 2nd car I was thinking pretty much the same thing you just said! i.e. this woman driver(?) is certainly NOT that well behaved...if and only IF.....she backed into someone! doubt it, but funny nonetheless...pmc out
Pkeener said at 8:18 a.m. on Apr 23, 2008: WOODY!! Finally somebody noticed!! Ironic. I find most vehicles with bumper stickers are not always in the best shape. And an interesting aside, A man was at the wheel of both cars!
Pkeener said at 8:21 a.m. on Apr 23, 2008: Thank you Jeannie, and Sue, i guess Americans like to make their opinion known! I have never been a fan of bumper stickers, but as i said earlier, I really get a kick out of reading them. just like signs. Thanks, PMC!

Pattymaryclare said at 1:04 p.m. on Apr 23, 2008: IN READING ALL THE DISCUSSION ABOUT THE HISTOIRE OF THE WORD 'HISTORY' I DID WHAT I'VE DONE MY WHOLE LIKE WHEN NOBODY ELSE!! COULD FIGURE OUT A WORD'S MEANING....I CONSULTED MY 85 YRS YOUNG PAPA A.K.A. ALNORMAN57 ON TABBLO (WHO STILL DOES THE NEW YORK TIMES CROSSWORD EVERY DAY OF HIS LIFE! SO THAT FREDZEE, LATENTE AND I WOULD HAVE THE DEFINITIVE ORIGIN, AND I QUOTE: " On digging into the root of the word 'history' I find it probably comes from the Greek 'histero' meaning 'behind'. That seems to fit in that history is a recounting of what occurred behind or before the present." Thanks Dad! We all like our brain exercise mais oui? PMC out again! lol
Welshchick said at 1:50 p.m. on Apr 23, 2008: Hey, this is good for me Pammie~ I'll try and kick some...today :^) At work they'll all say..."What has she been up to?" :^D

Mirella said at 3:06 a.m. on May 2, 2008: First: sometimes I would have been not a well behaved girl; perhaps it would have bee funnier. Second: from my big big dictionary, as pam's papa said,, "history " come from greek and, it says, the meaning could be "research".Ciao ciao
Eduardo.affonso said at 10:14 a.m. on May 2, 2008: I think well behaved men don't make history, either.
I once read about "history" being a "male oriented" word (as if we should have "hertory", "mytory", "ourtory"...).
I agree with Edite: misbehave - but with class.
Umair said at 12:23 p.m. on May 2, 2008: its not just about well behaved or lovable men and women. its about being able to realize how one behaves. peole who are known for not being well ehaved equally influence each moment of history as much as influentially well behave men and women do. but eventually it is HISTORY which decides who behaved well and who didn't. regards!
Rita.Mandarino said at 2:48 p.m. on May 2, 2008: I agree with Ema whem she said that two simple pictures with two simple sentences can cause so much controversy. Your tabblos are, most of the times, full of a very good discussion.
