This past winter I was invited to go caving with experienced friends. We went for a three-day weekend and I must confess I had no idea how cold Kentucky could get in Winter. I mean it was miserably cold outside (in the teens) with a wind that had no mercy. Thankfully once inside the cave things got much better. We explored a lot of the cave, using hand-drawn maps. On several occasions we got totally lost and spent a lot of time figuring out where we were and how to get out. It was quite the adrenaline rush. At some spots the ceiling was so low we had to remove our small packs and drag them with us as we slithered on the mud for what seemed to be hundreds of yards. |
