Solitude and Loneliness

The Difference Between Solitude and Loneliness

Solitude is the joy of being alone

while loneliness is the pain of being alone.

Being alone is not necessarily to be lonely.

Being alone involves only physical separation,

but being lonely includes both spiritual

and psychological separation or isolation.

that's a bluesy photo, the bare trees, the purple skies...

Wonderful photo and very well said. As I saw the title and before I read the quote, I was thinking the same thing: Solitude yes, Loneliness not necessarily, but very peaceful. Great Tab!!!

the blue tones of the photo gives the whole image such a serene atmosphere! yes, i agree - solitude, so much underrated and misunderstood, is simply a choice of wanting to be alone without feeling lonely. lovely!

Sorry about the quote being deposited below the picture, still struggling with the new tools in tabblo.
Thank you all for commenting. I find Solitude as a voluntary retreat from the company of other people and loneliness a feeling of unwantedness which is beyond our control. Sometimes we need a little Solitude to contemplate and to have a space in time. Paul Tillich aptly puts it as "Loneliness expresses the pain of being alone and solitude expresses the glory of being alone".

What correct words! I like to be one, but the loneliness kills my soul! There is no greater pain than pain from loneliness and destroyed hopes. Very remarkable tabblo. A photo in absolute harmony with the comment to her.

i visited here because of your comment on one of my photos, but I find myself listening to the words, and gazing at the emptiness..............it surrounds you, especially when times are not easy,.........makes me think of the dead of winter, the old emptiness which surrounds us all, thanks for the piture.

Those words sum it up, Teo. You can be lonely in a crowded room. I guess we've all felt the effects of loneliness at some times in our lives. Not good.
