Cotopaxi School Retirements 2008

The cake and presents

The "bar" where (non-alcoholic) drinks were served

The cake

The serving area

We had a retirement party for two of our staff members, Kristi Wilson, Elementary School Principal, and Bill Summers, School Psychologist. Our office manager, Tracey, and some of the other staff members put this "Island themed" party together including decorating the cafeteria.

I asked if one of the retirees was planning an island cruise or something but Tracey just thought having a "Luau" was neat. And I had heard staffers asking if they were going to the Luau. No roast pig or palm fronds in Cotopaxi that day though!

Piña Coladas without the "active ingredient" just aren't the same, we discovered.

The Wilsons filled a whole table (left). From right to left, Jim Wilson, Kristi, their two daughters, and a college friend of one of the daughters. Note the postures of each daughter reflecting a parent.

Jim is the retired Superintendent of the Salida School District. The daughters are both attending college. Kristi plans to substitute at Cotopaxi for a while after she "retires".

Why do people give retirees clocks and watches? At that point those tools become much less important. :)

Great coverage. I love the small town atmoshere. When I retired from the Chicago Public School System with 25,000 teachers in 1993 after 31 years I didn't even notify the ass of a principal. A few of my close colleages had a private dinner for me.

We have about 250 students (and declining), K-12 and 26 staffers all on one campus! With a geographic area of over 500 sq. miles! We just can't get that bureaucratic feel larger districts have. :)

Teaching is the process of sharing a life long hobby with friends. This Tabblo has already taught me a lesson.........clocks are bad when times are good. Mike
