The Scientist

Come up to meet you, tell you I'm sorry

You don't know how lovely you are

I had to find you

Tell you I've set you apart

Tell me your secrets

Nobody said it was easy

It's such a shame for us to part

Nobody said it was easy

No one ever said it would be this hard

Oh take me back to the start.

***

Tell you I need you

And ask me your questions

Oh let's go back to the start

Running in circles

Comets or tails

Heads on the science apart

From the song "The Scientist" by Coldplay.

Photos taken from our school's science laboratory.

I cannot find words to fully describe how this song meant to me when I was brokenhearted. The song speaks of a lover, metaphorically a scientist, who has to endure the pain of going back to the start because of an experiment gone wrong. Love relationships are intrinsically like science experiments--there are questions that need to be asked, problems to be solved, solutions that have to be tested, theories and hypotheses to be formulated--and the results can be beneficial or disastrous.

But like a true scientist, a lover should never lose hope and be eager to start over again. The world will never be like this if people have given up hope in their experiments and relationships. Have courage to go back to the start.

Very original, there's art to be found everywhere, and nice use of b/w. Congrats, James, on Tabblo of the Day! I'll watch the music video tonight when I get home from work! I especially like the "Gas/Water" photo and the one of the microscopes.

James, you deserved for sure this ToD... I started looking at this tabblo and thinking it was quite different, maybe original. But then I recognized the song and then I read your interpretetion, what it means to you... and I just loved it! it's a favorite for me! Congrats!

AliDar said at 3:48 p.m. on Jun 5, 2008:
Such an interesting concept, a scientific approach to love. Your B&W's are graphically stunning, and paired with the words of the song, ... well, I just can't explain it, but somehow the words have more meaning when read at the same time as viewing such images. ... There's a bit of humour in it all as well, which is a nice touch. Excellent work James!
Wildthing said at 4:44 p.m. on Jun 5, 2008:
Well done on TOD, James. Surely science is more clear cut than love. Love isn't an experiment, it's a happening without much rhyme or reason to it. If you're smitten, you're smitten. You don't choose for it to happen, and can't quantify it. :)
Debdog said at 5:57 p.m. on Jun 5, 2008:
congrats again.....wonder where my comments went???????????
Rheap said at 7:18 p.m. on Jun 5, 2008:
Awesome tabblo!!
Sirnicolay said at 7:34 p.m. on Jun 5, 2008:
Marranei, I think it might be too overwhelming if Chris Martin and his band see this. Hahaha! Thanks!

Thank you, too Kiko. :)

Dar, I'm happy you also found the humor in those pics. I thought that it was lost because of the theme. Hahaha.. I thought so carefully of the images beside each line of the lyrics of the song. I'm happy how it turned out. I thought of re-naming the tabblo: MTb or Music Tabblo! LOL.. But that would ruin everything I thought. :) Thanks!

Mike, that's another school of thought. You're also right. Science tends to be more direct and bound to rules and hands-on experiences. Maybe that also makes it a lot difficult. Some see love like a science experiment: structured, an event for discovery or loss--while some see it as like a work of art: free-flowing, more personal than shared--and maybe some will see it as a form of religion: bound by rituals and sacred, even. It depends on the lover, I think. But the difference of this perception of love could also lead to miscommunication, hence, break up. There are many other things--how complicated human relationship is...

Deb, I feel sorry that your comments were lost.. I was also wondering why you didn't comment--because you usually do. LOL.. hahaha! Maybe post it again? :)

Thanks, Ray!

CONGRATS ON TOD! James...this one had me riveted (don't know why but also thot of Nickelback's "If Everyone Cared" (the band from up the road apiece here in Alberta! lol) kudos and a fave for sure ...PMC ..And now, for your 'amusement'

My mother made me a scientist without ever intending to. Every other Jewish mother in Brooklyn would ask her child after school, "So? Did you learn anything today?" But not my mother. "Izzy," she would say, "did you ask a good question today?" That difference - asking good questions - made me become a scientist. ~Isidor Isaac Rabi

SterlingGray said at 10:08 p.m. on Jun 5, 2008:
Love is an emotion. Emotions are a thought process without the benefit of intellect. Love is a feeling that you can feel through out your whole body. Love may not always work out, but it is never disastrous. Love, whether it works out or not, defines us; it makes us who we are. Living life without having ever loved someone is not living. Wonderful photos paired perfectly with the song. Congrats on TOD

The b/w photos alone are terrific, but the way you play them off the lyrics puts this tabblo to the top! Well deserved TOD.
Sirnicolay said at 12:06 a.m. on Jun 6, 2008:
Patty, that quote is lovely. I am not much of a scientist, as I always tend to appreciate more artistic stuff, but science really intrigues me--the same way that mathematical patterns and scientific structures look very beautiful to anyone. Thanks for the comment and for sharing that quote. :)

Thank you, too, Edite, Edu, Den, Brian, Teo and Allan!

Sterling, when I said that love can produce disastrous results, I was thinking along the lines of those who died or endured grave consequences in the name of love. Love has ruined many lives of people--it can be terrible as it can be the most beautiful thing in the world and in anyone's life. Thank you for sharing your thoughts. :)
