Flight

The prototype of the 747.

Flight

Friday I went to the Museum of Flight in Seattle.

A reproduction of the 1903 Wright Flyer.

727

This Concorde flew British Airways’ last

commercial Concorde flight, on October 24, 2003.

Concorde interior.

747 underbelly.

This plane has flown Presidents Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson, and Nixon, as well as VIPs such as Nikita Khrushchev and Henry Kissinger.

The Boeing 80A-1 entered service in 1929.

The advent of the Model 80 brought some comfort to travel. The 80A had room for 18 passengers, a heated cabin, and leather seats. There were individual reading lights and the lavatory featured hot and cold running water. Although the 80 had a luxurious interior, flying was tough by today’s standards — the cabin wasn't pressurized, engine noise made conversation difficult, and despite heaters, the cabin was sometimes very cold.

A typewriter!

Wonderful set of great photos. Thanks for the tour of the museum. What a shame we lost Concorde & supersonic flight. The world became that much larger again. Not that I ever flew on it.
