I cannot advise, but I do feel the pain.

this is not a joke, I'm really full of doubt!
I think I choose a model that will notice the most frequently ...

Let me know what you decide... for I also need a new camera and cannot make up my mind... I want something small... I like to carry my camera everywhere with me, in my pocket and a DSLR like the girl in the photo has, is just way too big... yet... ??? (Deb takes such lovely photos... and others too who I don't know what camera they have)... so let me know your decision...

Hi Den, I am definately not the expert...but my sister (marcif) just went through this same dilemma and came out with a lovely choice (which I dont even know what it is!) I will make sure she pops in to give you some advice about her new "baby" the camera that she loves...and the ones that she thought about...in the meantime, keep snapping away with that amazing cell phone of yours:-)

CANON RULES!! But, you must try them all out and then decide...
Mariusblack said at 2:09 a.m. on Jun 16, 2008:
i agree with pam, mr. zen. try them out first. then you can choose properly. aside from you liking the way the images turn out, you should also consider how the camera feels on your hands. =)

that cam was every time a wish from me, but I couldn`t afford it and may be it was good so, when I look at your shot- lol -
Wildthing said at 4:20 a.m. on Jun 16, 2008:
I agree with Pam, CANON rules. But that's just a personal thing. I've got a 400 D. At the end of the day it's the quality of lenses you use that make the difference. And, hey, Den, you take superb shots with your phone :)
21-gramm said at 5:08 a.m. on Jun 16, 2008:
Thank you, Karla! It will be interesting to know Maci choice!

Pammie and Marius, Thank you again! I realized that it is better to buy body, and then pick the correct lens.

Angela and Mike, I'm not going to part with cell phone camera, of course, but it has its limits - very slow, it does not get a good prospect, settings must be changed every time I do a shot..

all those tabblos with your cell phone camera?????? wow!!
DocEna said at 7:11 a.m. on Jun 16, 2008:
Den I have used a Pentax and the pics are just perfect and it has a plus in color definition also the new 10 megapixels come with antiskake in the bode so you could use any lens and have the feature. Now I am experimenting with Canon and I had to buy antishake lens, in Brazil 90 % of serious photographers use Canon eventhough people are migrating for Nikon... anyway you have many options to choose from...good luck and let us know what you aquired...good luck
Andrew_o_o said at 7:58 a.m. on Jun 16, 2008:
try a canon 400d/450d or a nikon d40/d40x/d60

just remember than more megapix doest necessarily mean better takes :D

I wish I could give you some advise, but I know nothing about cameras, I set mine only on automatic because I don't know how to set it yet, but you take wonderful pics now and whatever you choose, I am sure you will take marvelous pictures.

Go figure. I’m not saying wot rules. Since you like 2b very original, I’d suggest to check out Panasonic. At the time I was buying my Nikon it was not available. Canon point and shoots are simply fantastic. Your phone (I think) has Zeiss optics. You’ll get something like this with Panasonic.
Curriehouse said at 9:53 a.m. on Jun 16, 2008:
Well, Den, I'm putting in an excellent word for NIKON. Any of my family who has a DSLR, uses NIKON. I think the results are as good as any. However, that's not to say that the others are any less good. I think it's a personal thing. A word of advice from an expert....Buy the best you can afford, you can always upgrade. Good luck with your search.
Hhwind said at 9:55 a.m. on Jun 16, 2008:
I think it boils down to the type and quality of pictures you want to take and how serious one is in photography.

Во всяком случае никто не советует Canon D40. Это знак!
Gustavo said at 11:44 a.m. on Jun 16, 2008:
I'm not an expert, but only can give you my opinion based on my personal experience. I'm very happy with my NIKON DSLR (D80). For starting , I assume that D40/D40X or D60 will be more than enough to start to capture excellent pictures.

Don't worry about it too much. You can make art with whatever camera you put in your hands.
Bxrgirl27 said at 7:07 p.m. on Jun 16, 2008:
If I had it to do over I'd get a Nikon D40 or newer - it just seems to take a crisper picture. However....I currently use an Olympus DSLR EVOLT 500 and it has served me well so far!

Had a Sony. It was okay. Now I have a Canon. As Pam and Mike said, Canon Rules!!!
Pkeener said at 8:18 p.m. on Jun 16, 2008:
had to come back and say...the equipment does not make the artist, the artist does need tools, though.
Marcif said at 8:42 a.m. on Jun 17, 2008:
Short answer: it really does boil down to personal choice and how the camera feels in your hands. dSLR is a definite. From there, just go to camera shops and try them all out.
Marcif said at 8:45 a.m. on Jun 17, 2008:
Probably really too long an answer, but here goes! I'm a NIKON NIKON NIKON chick! But Canon is just as good. It's personal preference. It might sound silly, but it really does come down to "How does the camera feel in your hands" If you can, buy local. Go to a local camera shop and just try cameras out ... dSLR would be my first suggestion, and it looks like you've already made that decision. The next question, how serious are you? If you have the budget and you are definintely serious, I might not recommend an "entry-level" dSLR, e.g. Nikon D40 or Canon Rebel. If you just want to try a dSLR and see where that leads you, then, yes, get an entry level. IF you are considering an entry-level dSLR, as much as I LOVE my Nikon D40x, I would be more inclined to recommend the Canon Rebel, because the Nikon D40 has limitations on which lenses will AUTO FOCUS. You can use virtually any Nikon lens on the D40, but not all will auto focus, you have to use manual focus. For some, this is ok, for me, I need auto focus, so this limits my lens choices somewhat. If you have the budget for it, I would recommend the NIKON D300. It is reported to be the camera of all cameras (unless you want to go pro level, then it's the Nikon D3) Although the Canon 40D seems to be a great camera too. Canon used to be better at low-light situations, but the with the D300, Canon has now met its match. If you go with the D300 or 40D, there will be more of a learning curve, than if you go with an entry-level camera. More Megapixels does not mean better photos, it's true, and the more pixels you have, the more any mistakes/flaws will show up, BUT the more megapixels you have, the more room you have for creative cropping, and blowing up huge prints for when you get that awesome shot that deserves to be wall sized. The Nikons and Canons do not have the anti-shake / vibration reduction (VR) / image stabilization built into the camera body, it is built into the lens, which means your lenses with VR will cost a bit more. There is argument that this technology is better suited to being built into the lens, and some say it's better in the body. I do not know. If this is important to you, then consider the PENTAX. My dad was a Pentax user for years (now uses Nikon though) and swears by Pentax. Pentax has the VR built into the body. I believe Sony does as well, but I'm not sure. So, this may not be that much help. It really does boil down to personal choice. :) Good luck! Let us know what you get!!

Den, I´m not really an expert but i have a canon with 5 megapixeles and i´m just fine with it! But as they say - just try some for the "hand-feeling"and see what is important to you in the menue... good luck!

Well I have been using a Canon point and shoot SD500. It was stolen out of my car last month, I am thinking someone in the universe needed it more than me. Anyway enough Modern Existentialism. I just ordered after much research and coin flipping a Nikon D60. It arrives tommorrow. What I really liked about this camera is how compact and light it is. I plan on later on getting a D300 for certain occassions. The thing is after looking at and handling the 40D and D300 is that they are big and heavy compared to a D40,D40x,D60 or RebetXT or RebelXSI. I personally like the way the D60 fits in my hand. After having only a tiny Canon Point and Shoot,I want the smallest, lightest powerhouse of a camera. I hope I made a good choice. Check my future Tabblos and be the judge.
Cheers
James
