PhotogGene said at 8:13 a.m. on Jun 25, 2008: Wow! Sarcasma, those swans are pretty tame to let you get so close. These pictures are incredible and crsp in detail. The swans I photograph in the wild would never let me get that close (especially with cygnets), otherwise they would attack me and I have been attacked before by swans. It's no fun at all. Great pix.

Sarcasma said at 12:32 a.m. on Jul 7, 2008: Thanks, everyone, for your comments. Gene, the swans were tame because people clearly feed them, despite the abundant signs asking people not to. They kept their distance until a couple sitting on a bench started throwing pastry crumbs to a pair of ducks, then the swans drove the ducks out. From what I understand, one pair of swans can "own" a pond, and they're great at driving out Canada geese. These are mute swans, the natives of the area. They're some of my favorite animals.
