Ask Me What I Live For

Know thyself.

"If you want to identify me, ask me not where I live, or what I like to eat, or how I comb my hair, but ask me what I am living for, in detail, and ask me what I think is keeping me from living fully for the things I want to live for. Between those two answers you can determine the identity of any person."

- Thomas Mertin, The Man in the Sycamore Tree

What we see and perceive is who we are.

Loss of identity is far worse than death.

One can only know oneself if he knows his ambitions and aspirations in life. Knowing how one can achieve those goals is the next step to knowing your identity. You can always see the reason why people act in such ways. Motives define how one would act in a given situation.

For me, being an honor student, a good friend, a brother and a son is a part of who I am already. Knowing how I take on these roles and what prevents me from doing these are bits of it too.

Having this in mind makes it even more difficult for me to understand who I really am. What is in store for me outside high school or even after college? What am I absolutely passionate and crazy about? I still haven't known my real purpose but I know the things I reach out for right now can affect what my aspirations will be in the future.

Although we always don't know it, knowing ourselves gradually happens. It is true that we all discover something new everyday. As this builds up, we get to know our purpose, what we live for and how are we going to spend the rest of our lives.

Show your true colors.

Your deepest roots trace back from your family.

Tell me who your friends are and I'll know you.

Every one of these photos shows different sides of me. I am all of these but setting what I am passionate about as something that will determine my fate is a very difficult decision. Truth be told, I am still pretty clueless on what course I am going to take in college and what job will I end up in. As quoted, what I live for and what is keeping me from fully living the things I live for is my identity. Wtih this, I can say I haven't gotten to know myself as much as I would like. I know someday, I'd be able to deepen my relationship with myself to uncover the mysteries within me. In the end, I will find my identity and one day, ask me what I live for and I'll be able to answer that question in detail.

This is really good... great!!! Not at all what I would think a high schooler would do... or how they would think & care... You are very mature and grown up... I wish you every success and I know you will accomplish much... I can see it in your words.
