Impression of Liu Sanjie

The performance was premiered on March 20th, 2004 at the Sanjie Liu Sing Fair. This is the world largest natural theatre which utilizes the waters of the Li River as its stage, with twelve mist shrouded hills and the skies as its backdrop. Its auditorium is housed on the natural islands of the river with the audience sitting on designed terraces with a sitting capacity of 3 thousand, surrounded by green plants. The latest 3D sound equipment is used hidden away from the public by blending it with the natural environment. The valleys, the hills, the cool breeze and the gurgling streams are all elements contributing to the three-dimensional sound effect. This a new concept of incorporating nature as an integral part of the stage and backdrop.

Directed by famous movie director Zhang Yimou and performed by 600 local villagers and fisherman not professional actor and actresses. Zhang hoped that by using the local villagers lends authenticity to the show and pass on the economic benefits to the local people.

Thank you all for your kind comments, it was indeed a stunning experience, there are no curtains but the veil of darkness and as lights shown on the distant hills and islands they look like Chinese ink brush paintings for background and the scene comes alive with 600 actors and actresses moving on floating platformsand bamboo rafts. Truly remarkable, state of art sound effects and the vibrant colours just wonderful.
