At first, the Yayoi people (400 B.C. - 300 A.D.) imported most of their iron and bronze objects from the Korean peninsula or China, but local metallurgical skills quickly caught up. Iron being durable was used for making practical farming tools and weapons. Bronze was more malleable and being rarer was reserved in Japan mainly for ceremonial and ritual use goods, although some bronze weapons, such as arrowheads, were also used for actual warfare. |
