SENEGAL PARROT

Just had to come out of hibernation for this one.

This is a parrot from the Senegal Islands of Africa.

Could have stayed on the beach all day to snap this little guy, I mean the parrot.

He was so friendly, he even came on my finger and said his name was RINGO.

No, I haven't travelled to Africa, I only wish I could. This was a young lad laying on the beach with his parrot, and I got his permission to take a few pictures.

fantastic set!
who is the guy, a parrot friend, Doreen!
Tishfish said at 2:59 p.m. on Jul 3, 2008:
Apparently there is a fellow who is raising rare birds and selling them, this is one of the last ones he has because he is going to give it up and retire. I just met this fellow Den on the beach today and he was telling me the story of his father raising birds and that they were known as the bird people, I had heard of them a while back but forgot about it until today, I could have had many fabulous pictures of rare birds had I remembered they were here.

Tishfish said at 3:13 p.m. on Jul 3, 2008:
Thanks Jude and everyone. I have more great photos from the beach, but I am going to wait until I get a lot more, I never know what I'll find, it sure won't be the nude beach though, LOL.

Great photos Mom! Wow, I bet you didn't expect to find a parrot on the beach! And you're right! This is a great story and definitely worth coming out of hibernation for! :) Thank you! :)
Tishfish said at 3:18 p.m. on Jul 3, 2008:
Thanks Dar. Donna and I were just walking along, and putting our feet in the COLD water and I saw him laying there, but didn't see the bird until I got up to him. He didn't hesitate a yes answer when I asked him if I could take some pictures of his parrot, I was going to say something else, but, LOL, better not.
AliDar said at 3:35 p.m. on Jul 3, 2008:
You don't have to Mom; you and I have the same sense of humour, ... yours came first though, so I can blame it on you the next time someone exclaims: DAR! (chuckling)

Yes senegal parrots (in dutch Bonte Boer) can be friendly, but yet I tell you never to trust'em... I've had several and I still have one without feathers because of stress (he had no feathers when I bought him). They can be really friendly but IF they bite it's hard really really hard to the bone.... and they won't let you go I tell from experience.... And these are really acrobatic they learn to dance etc!

BUt tishfish, THese ARE awesome pictures! I love'em!

These are terrific close-ups of this beaky beach bird. By the look of that third shot, the guy is risking speaking falsetto!!! :)

Thanks everyone. When I was taking the photos of the parrot, I never even noticed where he was until I uploaded to my album, but now I noticed that he is in a danger zone for the poor young lad, hahaha.
Tishfish said at 10:22 a.m. on Jul 4, 2008:
Junst thought of something, if the bird had bitten him in that danger zone, I could have gotten more wonderful shots, LOL.

Thank you Chairiamma, Ema and Paul.

I am hearing more about that bird and remembering that I let it on my finger and put him up to my face, thinking that maybe he might have taken a chunk out of my cheek and also glad that he didn't.
