Tiger, Tiger, Burning Bright

"In what distant deeps or skies / Burnt the fire of thine eyes?"

An 89-degree day at the lakeside left this tiger uncomfortably hot

In and out of the water he went, slurping big gulps with each dip

"Did he who made the lamb make thee?"

A child asked her father what the tiger eats, and the father replied, "Anything he wants."

I currently cannot think of a single thing in nature more gorgeous than a tiger

Something drew his attention, and I came to realize that the lion cubs next door had finally woken up, and he could see them through their window from his own

Tiger, courtesy of the Racine Zoo in Racine, Wisconsin.  Poem by William Blake.

Who can see this majestic creature without thinking of the poem The Tiger?

Having just done a Tiger tab with an extract of William blake's poem, I was surprised to see this appear so soon after. Your photographs are terrific, though.

Thanks for the comments, everyone. Wildthing, I don't think I was aware of your tabblo using the poem that preceded mine. While I was shooting the pics, there was another couple and we were trying to recite the lines to the poem as we watched the tiger, so it was in my head even as I was taking the photos. Much to my surprise, there aren't many literary references to tigers. I know because I checked. My concern was using exerpts from the Blake poem would be too cliche, but there isn't much else out there, which amazes me. Despite it all, the poem is utterly perfect for tigers. All tigers. Sorry if you felt you were ripped off. I know many before us have done this as well because my search for new tiger literature brought up about a million Blake exerpts attached to tiger photos from all over the place. :)
