Walking Toward the (City of) Lights

As I stepped into the warm, inviting bus from the frigid streets of Paris, excitement surged through my body. My family and I had just arrived in The City of Lights, and at that moment, it had just occurred to me that I was in one of the most beautiful places in the world, which was thousands of miles away from home. This thought made me feel extremely excited because I knew that I was going to see many stunning sights. I slowly ventured into the bus, looked for my seat, and eyed my tour mates along the way. A young couple sat together, gently holding hands and gazing deeply into each other's eyes. To my left, I saw a little boy sitting beside his mother, moving around restlessly while waiting for the ride to begin. As I found my seat near the back aisle, our bus had started to move. An immense obelisk was the first thing that caught my eye on our trip. It was a humongous sight situated in the middle of a quadrangle. I gazed at the beautiful, intricate designs chiseled into the faded blackish green rock. Behind this structure, I could see the Ritz Hotel. Our tour guide excitedly mentioned that this is one of the most expensive hotels in the world, and many important people like government officials and world famous artists have stayed here. I peered into one of the windows and briefly imagined what it would be like to live in such a magnificent place. Not far from this is the world famous museum, the Louvre. It consisted of three towering buildings with a breathtaking centerpiece, the glass pyramid. When the sun's rays illuminated the entire museum, the light was slightly reflected by the glass, which created an amazing sight whose beauty is truly unparalleled.

Moving further, we quickly passed by the Church of Notre Dame. I admired the stunning round glass window at the center of the church; its pattern was like a sunflower in bloom, whose petals were arranged in the most fantastic way. I was also awestruck at the symmetry of the church. It was as though one could literally cut it into two equal pieces, and I was stunned by its outstanding characteristic of being both very solemn and utterly beautiful. We soon realized that our little field trip was almost over, for we had only one sight left to see: the Eiffel Tower. As we approached the tower, my heart started pounding faster than it had ever done so before, for the Eiffel Tower was the most spectacular thing my young eyes have ever seen. Its height was almost immeasurable, and I believe that it was so tall, it could actually reach the heavens. We slowly approached the Eiffel Tower, and the closer we got to it, the more extraordinary it appeared to be. The tall structure that I had seen from afar was actually a framework of metallic beams, some of which formed x-shaped patterns. Moving up to one of its floors was an inspirational activity; through it, you could see the beauty of Paris all in one glance through the elevator's small, transparent window. As we got to the first floor, we gasped at the sight of seeing Paris in the most breathtaking way. The houses, building, trees, lakes, and all other structures found in the area appeared to fit so well that looking at the entire view all at once was truly mind-blowing. The Eiffel Tower truly was an amazing landmark.

My trip around Paris was truly an inspiring one, for in one day, I had seen so many gorgeous buildings and amazing structures. The beauty of all the sights and landmarks of Paris is truly awe-inspiring and magnificent, and no other place on earth could ever match its grandeur.

Good job describing the places. The pictures and the words created a very clear image in my mind. I hope, though, that your tabblo would be more balanced as in less empty spaces.

I have to admit, the topic of Paris is very intriguing. However can you make more descriptions instead of abstracts? It was hard to envision the beauty of the setting sun shining on the Louvre and I couldn't envision the houses and trees from the Eiffel Tower. On the other hand, the pictures you supplied are magnificent. It really shows the beauty of the trip. I know you can make your essay even better than the clearly beautiful pictures that you supplied.

It was amazing that you were able to narrate an experience and describe it very vividly! Despite the formatting problems, the over-all impression was great! Job well done! :D P.S. Is the formatting a software glitch?

Thanks for the comments, guys! Yes, Douglas, the overlapping text earlier was a formatting glitch, but I fixed that. :)

The way you shared your experience was superb. I think the pictures and the text are quite flawless.

Excellent tabblo! The essay and the pictures are all amazing. Your descriptions are probably the best ones I've read so far from your classmates' works. Kudos! 99. :)

You described Paris and its landmarks excellently. Your pictures also helped a lot with the descriptions. Now I really want to visit Paris! (or Europe for that matter :D)

I must say, this is incredibly excellent. My mouth was left wide open as you continued to vividly describe each setting that I felt as if I were there with you, gazing at the nice views of Paris. You truly know how to relate to others upon the vivid experiences you witness so impressively :D. This tabblo, I believe, is the least flawed I had ever seen. This is supremely beautiful, and hopefully the atmosphere of your coming tabblos will strike us all just as well, or even more. :)

You really do know how to make an excellent tabblo, Ryan. The way you described the places which you visited really leaves images within my head. I could actually feel going up the elevator of the Eiffel Tower and gazing at Paris from high above. However, I think that your title could be improved further but overall, I really liked reading your tabblo. :D

Thank you, Christian! :D

Thanks Ryan, you actually brought me back to one of my most favorite places on Earth (I really miss it and want to go back...). Your descriptions brought me back there to experience it a second time. You made me relive the Eiffel Tower, the church of Notre Dame, the beautiful museum Louvre, and I sincerely thank you for that because you satisfied my insatiable hunger to get back to the City of Lights (but you also made me want to go back all the more :D). One question though, am I still in Paris? :D
Ryancarlyu said at 5:43 a.m. on Jul 12, 2008:
Haha! Thanks Matt!

I really like the way you described one tour around Paris. It seemed as if I was on the bus with you (one can only dream though). I don't think there isn't anything to point out that's not good except your title. The parentheses are unnecessary. However, the pictures and the text go really well. Congrats on the 99! High five! XD

By the way, why didn't you put the pic that you have as your icon right now of you standing near the Eiffel Tower at night? That would've been a great plus.
Ryancarlyu said at 8:54 a.m. on Jul 12, 2008:
Thanks! :D The pic that I'm using now was taken just at night, just before we went on a cruise. The bus ride I wrote about happened very quickly in the morning and afternoon of that day, which is why I didn't include it. :)

All that I can say is you most definitely gave Paris its due. :)
This is a brilliant and flawless essay. Congratulations, Ryan.

Thank you, Thomas and Emma! Your comments mean a lot. :)

I really liked how you described each place you visited. It was as if I was also there (the pictures kinda helped too:). All in all, it's an amazing tabblo.

WOW! That was an excellent essay. You really gave me a clear picture of how beautiful Paris is! It was like I could see the city with my own eyes, and I could even imagine myself inside the bus, looking at the scenery. Very good work! :)
