The Clarke Hotel - tabblo #2

The old Clarke Hotel - now The Kensington, assisted living apartments........... Hastings, Nebraska 2008

I posted the photo on the left earlier this week...

Several people wondered what the front of the building looked like... and asked if there were any more buildings with advertising...

Above is the Clarke Hotel from the front...

Below is the only other building we found with advertising.  The Hastings Casket Co. has been out of business & empty for about 20 years.

I just checked in Adams County: The Story, 1872-1972. This is a history book by Dorothy Weyer Creigh and includes information about Hastings, NE. It says the Hastings Casket Company was founded in 1928... and until 1968, was located on west Second Street... So, sorry I didn't look before you posted this, Jodi, but it has been closed at this location for 40 years not 20. It has been empty, I think, for all that time--and I know for the past 29 years that we've lived in Hastings. A picture in that same book says the Clarke Hotel opened in 1914 at a cost of $125,000. The picture looks very much the same as the one you took, Jodi, except for the cars. Way to go!!!

I prefer the shot of the rear with the writing on. Looks like one of those film set buildings on a back lot.

You have found perfect prospect of this building. Good job and sight on simple things.
